Chance me / question

I am an OOS student looking to apply to LMU. It is easily my number one school, I go to a small private school on the East Coast. They rarely send students to LMU. Here are my stats:

GPA: 3.4 UW (my school does not give GPA and there will not be one sent to LMU when I apply, they send my grades and a book describing the rigor of each class as well as a scattergram of where I fall against other students in my classes, but that GPA is roughly what I have)

SAT: 1300, looking to raise to 1350-1400 before I apply

Class Rank: N/A

EC: 4 year varsity lacrosse player (3 time league champions, 3 time State Champion), played on the varsity team as an eighth grader; 3 year varsity soccer player; Head of Student Support Team; Student mentor to underclassmen; Helped in the elementary school for a year; 100+ hours of community service; Writer for a school fashion magazine

Note about my HS: It is known as a top private school on the east coast. I am not saying its necessarily harder than other schools, but the classes I take are more rigorous than most.

Intended Major: something in communications, but maybe international relations, somewhat undecided but I will apply for a major on my application, also maybe pre law.

I know my GPA is below what they want, and my SAT is average, however I held off on opportunities to play D1 lacrosse in hopes to get into LMU. Some may think that’s dumb, but thats how bad I want it. LMU does not have a varsity lacrosse program, so it does not help me much. What are my chances of getting in? Will my sport help me even though LMU does not offer it?

Help!

Look at the Common Data Set to see where your stats place you. Definitely work hard to get your GPA up and SAT scores, too. You’re very close but it’s getting so competitive that every bit helps. DDs SAT was similar to yours but she got SAT up to 1380. SAT Essay 22. Her GPA is 3.75. She’s graduating from a school that sounds similar to yours, so make sure you college counselor works hard to advocate for you, especially if your school doesn’t use letter grades.

Reach out to your LMU admissions counselor so you start establishing your relationship with them early. Your lacrosse shows a strong commitment so that’s great! How about other ECs? My DD didn’t have a lot, but what she did have showed strong commitment and focus, like your Lacrosse, and her ECs tied into her chosen major.

Definitely apply EA, Or ED, if it really is your number one school. If you can come out to visit, that’s great, but if not definitely make sure you meet your regional admissions counselor.

Good luck!

Just checked out acceptance rates fro EA and regular decision for a different posting. In 2017 the LMULA EA acceptance rate was 58.9 and the regular application acceptance rate was 52.4. A slight, but not too dramatic edge for the EA applicant.

Yes, but EA shows a strong interest, so if this is @hucky567 top choice, EA certainly doesn’t hurt.
