It's that time of the year- college applications time. I'm a senior in high school and Georgia tech is my "top choice"

Chance me:
Class rank: 14% - very competitive class.
GPA- unweighted: 3.3/4.0
weighted: 5.3/6.0
^ Many, many AP and IB courses. (Weak 10th grade due to personal stress so I ended with all B's and 2 C's. Five AP's, one IB that year)
SAT: spring 08: Math- 600 Verbal- 590 Writing- 590
^ Those scores WILL go up, especially in math. However I have to wait until October 12 to send them. (left hospital to take the exam: bird flu)
Extra Curricular:
President of Math Honors Society
Math tutor- Algebra II to Calculus I.
Miami Dade Football coaching(elementary school)
Science honors society(Physics tutor)
Future Business Leaders of America(local competitions)
Private tutor- not sure if it counts as "employment"
Played football in 9th and 10th grade.(not full seasons)

In addition, I need to know if I should send a recommendation letter along with my application and transcript? Nowhere in the application does it say to. However, it doesn't say not to. I also need to know if "stress" caused by household problems with my sister along with transportation trouble in my 10th grade year should be explained in the "special circumstances" part of the application? I feel like I should so that I can explain why I earned those C's but I don't want to make it seem like I'm making "excuses" for bad grades. What exactly is a special circumstance? I mean, a huge number of students go to troubles that many students with perfect gpa's just don't have to deal with.

You dont need a recommendation letter and you don’t send your transcipt. You only send your transcript after you are accepted and they then verify your grades.

I would says your chances are low due to your low SAT and low GPA. You should bring that math SAT up to at least 700 and you might want to try the ACT and see if that will help. EC’s are decent but nothing spectacular.

Your SAT Math, SAT CR, and GPA are all well below the 25th percentile. Unless you are being actively recruited as an athlete, Tech is beyond “reach”.

Thank you guys for the input. I have taken many practice tests and I’ve been studying very hard for the SAT and ACT which I will take in a couple of weeks. I always score over 700 in the Math sections. The Reading is the one I really have to work on along with some writing. It is in my understanding that they will look at the October SAT and ACT results so I am very fortunate. My GPA really cannot be helped at this point but I’ll hope for the best.

Also, the only reason why I sent the transcript is because my school’s CAP adviser told me to do it anyway. She also recommended that I send a recommendation letter. She told me that even if it isn’t required, they will use it/look at it.(And even if they don’t, it won’t go against me to send it in, right?)
