I think my common app essay was pretty good and my supplement was decent

My letters of rec are from my 11th grade physics teacher and my 10th grade AP psych and present intro to social science research teacher. I also got a guidance counselor rec that I know will be very good. The others should be decent at the very least.

THANK YOU!

Ok I will bite, but no one (including admissions officers) can accurately predict your chances since applicant pool competitiveness varies year to year and we don’t have info from personal statement, letters, etc. and with acceptance rate as low as 13%, its probably a crapshoot for anyone.

Your numbers: average to below average. Excellent writing sat score, but your reading & math scores are below average for hopkins. Rank: nothing impressive, but enough to not to take out of consideration (most students are within top 10% of high school)- overall numbers won’t get you in, but won’t keep you out necessarily.

Other soft factors: you have a great quantity of extracurriculars, but it is lack in quality. Varsity sports, some volunteering, math stuff- probably below average esp compared to applicants who applied to hopkins that i knew with more focused, unique e.c.s and national awards.

Other personal factors: unfortunately, you are an indian female from new york who want to major in biology/pre med(i am assuming)- it’s dime a dozen at hopkins and unfortunately will probably work against you- once again I knew way too many applicants who looks exactly the same like this and got rejected. I wish you were a nigerian immigrant (half joking) who is interested in majoring in classics- that would get you in lol.

Applicants who got in without impressive achievements had something quirky (in a nice way) about them and did something down to earth, but interesting- like a cooking blog/vblog on youtube or making intricate building models with just papercuts- they seemed like “average”, but i could see them thriving on campus and just wanted to get to know them more.

If you are recruited by hopkins for sports (track, volleyball), then you have a good shot.

Overall, if i have to bet $20, you will likely to be rejected or at best waitlisted. A big unknown is your personal statement-maybe compelling personal story will move you to acceptance territory. Nothing wrong with you personally but admissions just has been getting way too competitive, but there are always exceptions including few of my friends who manage to get in with average/below average stats and other factors. I am sure many many great schools with brand names (i predict at least few in top 30-40 schools) will love to have you.

@hchun301 Thanks so much for the input. I wouldn’t really say I’m “recruited” but the track coach has expressed his interest in me and has told me that they are doing everything on their end to support my application through the admissions process. I have also demonstrated that JHU is my top choice. We’ll see how things turn out!

I heard that a supported athlete has a very good chance of admission. They don’t support you if your grades are not good enough, regardless of athletic skills. I know someone who was told he had a 90% chance of admission by a coach (and was then admitted). I know others where were told that due to grades/scores, they could not be supported regardless of their athletic skills.

@blevine who did you hear that from? As a supported athlete, I’m very nervous, especially since my school sent out midyear grade reports very late.
