RecogniRion program thingy for doing really well on the PSAT.
Really want to know if I’m in good shape for RD, or should consider ED2 (I’m going for uchi ea so I won’t do ed2 unless they deny me).
To be honest, Carleton is one of those schools where just looking at stats won’t be enough to be certain of whether or not you get in. That said, you look like a good candidate for RD.
I did ED2 to Carleton with similar stats to you ( I got in and am currently attending). Many of my friends with similar stats to you were admitted from RD. If your school has Naviance, I would suggest looking at the scattergrams to see how your stats compare you to other applicants. Naviance will show you how people with comparable statistics from pervious years did (basically, whether they were accepted/waitlisted/denied).
If you don’t have Naviance, I would be happy to show you my scattergram, but it won’t be as good of an indicator as one with students from your school.
Another thing to do would be to look at the statistics of last years admitted students, and see how they match up to you. Those are readily available on the Carleton website, I believe.
TLDR: In my opinion, you should be good applying RD, but I don’t know. If you really like Carleton (and you should, because it’s wonderful!), you should apply ED2- it really does significantly raise your chances.
Thanks for the advice UrsulaC! I checked out the naviance page and there’s absolutely no data, I guess no one from my HS has applied in a WHILE.
I will check out the stats for this year’s admitted students, should give me a good picture of where I am. Though as with most schools like Carleton, my essay will probably be a very important part of the app.
You look to be good shape. Two comments: 1. Schools like Carleton look at unweighted GPA then consider the rigor of your school and what you took compared to what you could take. If your unweighted GPA is 3.7 or higher and you took a tough load, I would think that you are in great shape. 2. No matter what the school says, geography matters, so if you are from an unrepresented area of the country or in one of Carleton’s strategic geographies (Southwest and Pacific Northwest) then you are in even better shape.
@DODIAT My DD has a 3.98 UW (a B in PE) with as many honors/APs as possible and 2310 SAT superscored (2 sittings) and is from the Pacific NW yet still was wait listed at Carleton.
