Caveats - I got a C first quarter for Calc BC, but I’ll probably be able to pull the my first semester average up to a B with tentative As/Bs second quarter and on the midterm. I’ve maintained straight A’s in all my other classes, so I don’t exactly know how much a C in Calc will hurt me in regards to my midyear report. Since it’s more or less an isolated incident, is it worth writing an email to admissions explaining any issues I had?

Your gpa and sat qualifies you but do you have any EC”s?

I’m not sure how your school reports grades, but when I was in high school our “quarter grades” weren’t official and weren’t released to college. Only semester grades went on the transcript - if that’s the case at your school (and I suspect it is though you may want to check with your counselor) then Hopkins won’t even know about the first quarter C. And considering you have straight As, I don’t think one B will hurt you too much.

Assuming you get a B in Calc I think your chances are decent. Your objective stats are good and Hopkins will like that APL internship. Hopkins is a reach for anyone but I think you have a decent shot.
Good luck!

Thanks for the input—I’ll make sure to check in w/ my counselor regarding the report.

Numbers look good along with the internship, but your ECs show a serious lack of achievement at the state and national level. Additionally, since you didn’t even mention it, I’m assuming you’re not looking too hot in the leadership department

@vrhou98 Yeah, I don’t have anything particularly flashy. I’m assuming this kinda kills my chances?

Doesn’t kill your chances, but looking unique does help you stand out from the crowd. The main issue that is really killing your application is that you don’t have any SAT subject tests. Hopkins really emphasizes those, especially for engineers.
