Chance me RD

My cousin that goes to Cornell currently is trying to get me to apply, but I kind of feel like it would be a waste of time. Could you guys look at my stats and tell me if I should go through with it or not? Thanks in advance:

Demographics: Male, white
Located: CT

SAT - 800cr, 550m, 680w
SATII - 800 lit, 710 US history
ACT - 29 (34 reading, 29 english/science, 23 math, 9essay)

*GPA *- (89.5 weighted) 3.4 (?) weighted, 3.2 unweighted

Major - Classics (N.B. - I've had at or near 100 in Latin for 3 straight years now)

AP - English Lit this year, counts as an early college course for UConn as well. This is sparse compared to most people, but keep in mind my school offers an irregular AP schedule. We've got four for seniors this year, and for juniors there's only AP US history.

Honors - Chem, Latin IV (only honors Latin offered - no AP)

Awards
- National Latin Exam, cum laude (10+11, 12 taken in Feb)
- CT State Latin Day authors and literature Maxima Cum Laude

EC
- School Literary mag editor
- Emergency room volunteer - not many hours so far, around 24ish. Program suspended because of H1N1
- Diversity/Acceptance group, called "Peer Advocates"
-Freshman and Sophmore, JV lacrosse

My essay is turning out well, but its rough so I make any judgements yet.
My rec's are excellent, especially from my Latin teacher.

So there you go. Please do be brutal; I fully expect to be rejected and I'm just looking for confirmation :P

Forgot my rank - 55/192

Your GPA is unfortunately low - I’m going to guess it’s because you did poorly in math classes? I think that’s a real bad point in your app and your math score on the SAT was pretty low, regardless of whether math is your forte or not.
You sound a lot like my friend, he has an 86 average, but his english and history averages are around 95, while his math and mandarin [He’s white, don’t ask :P] averages are around 75-80.
Unfortunately, I don’t think you have great chances for Cornell, even if you ED’d it, but I think you have great chances for small LACs.

That’s basically it. I did badly in math my first two years, as well as a poor showing in chem. I am looking at Amherst, Trinity and BU, which are my top choices though.

Thanks for the feedback.

If you want to look at some more, check out Williams, Swarthmore, Vassar, Middlebury, Colby, Bowdoin and Carleton. I know people who’ve gone to all of them - and they all love it. They were all english/history people, too.

Thanks, I’ll give them a look.
