Grades - I am not sure how to convert percentage to GPA. Generally speaking, I have top grades for Computer Science and Maths (95% - 100%). The rest are average. (75% - 80%). ICSE (best 5) - 94.4%
My school does not rank.

ECs - A lot of ECs but mostly intra school. Founded the Interact club in our school. Member of a few clubs and societies. Writer for school magazine. Head of IT exhibition, senior chemist society. Member of school technology council. Won a quite a few intra school awards. School dance crew.
Duke of Edinburgh - silver. About 250 hrs of service.
School team leader for a Techfest.

I do not have any national/international olympiads. No AP exams either.
I think my essays and recommendations are good. (7.5/10)

What would you say my chances are for,
UC Berkeley
Cornell
Carnegie Mellon University
University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign
University of Michigan, Ann Harbor
Georgia Tech
Purdue

Except Cornell & Berkley, whose admission decisions you can never really predict, you are a match for the rest of them!! Especially as you are paying the full fee!! :)

Cornell & Berkeley are reaches. Berkeley because of your major. Cornell, just because it is an ivy!!

Btw… we both have pretty similar stats!!
(SAT I 2180 (2230-superscore), SAT II 780/760, ICSE 94 % all 7, 11th 81% avg.)

Yes we do! which school are you from? Any luck with Early admissions? I got deferred from Georgia Tech.

I am hoping to get into Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon or Cornell. They are my realistic dreams.
The problem is, I think my Berkeley and CMU essays could have been much better. I should have given them more time.
I think my Cornell essays are amazing. But SAT scores are low for Cornell because they don’t look at writing!!! Bummer!

Cornell: Reach
Berkeley: High match (maybe match if you are actually full pay as you claimed but full-pay at Berkeley is just a little below full-pay at Cornell)
CMU: Reach
UIUC: Match
UMI: Match
GA Tech: Match
Purdue: Low match

@garggaurav - Im from Bangalore! What about you?
No I didn’t apply ED anywhere. And I am surprised that you got deferred from GeorgiaTech!! Think you should have got in there!!!

And I need Financial Aid very badly so CMU,UIUC & the rest are not an option!
I’ve applied to Cornell, Dartmouth, Pton, Columbia, Northwestern & UPenn. All of them reaches!! Don’t have any hopes of getting accepted though!!

I think you have a good chance at CMU even with a decent essay because I know about 10 friends applying to CMU this year with lower stats and most of them are confident of getting accepted ( courtesy of information from seniors/counselors/relatives in the U.S.A.)!!

Really? well then I hope I get into Carnegie Mellon. The thing is, their Computer Engineering standards are much higher than others. And I just feel so stupid submitting my application 20 days before the deadline! My common app essay is much better now, but its already been submitted! :(

Anyways, I am from Delhi. Lets hope for the best!

Its funny how Cornell Computer Engineering ranks a lot lower than UIUC and GATech, but is so much tougher to get into. All just because its an Ivy!

UC Berkeley-High reach
Cornell-high reach
Carnegie Mellon University-high reach
University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign-match
University of Michigan, Ann Harbor-reach
Georgia Tech-match
Purdue-not sure

@garggaurav - As I see it, there are two reasons why Cornell is tougher to get into than GATech or UIUC. One,as you stated, it is an ivy(meets 100% aid, need blind, sets you up for your future life!!) and the other is that UIUC & GAtech are large institutions with much more seats for undergraduate engineers!! In fact, I think Cornell accepts ~ 2000 undergraduates in total(less enroll) while UIUC accepts ~ 1250 undergraduate engineers itself!!

Anyway hopefully, both of us get accepted by atleast one of our listed universities!! :)
