I'm also looking at other Ivy's and Carnegie Mellon, Duke, etc. I want to go into mechanical engineering, so any input would be great! Thanks!

Stanford is an extremely high reach. So is duke and most of the ivies. You have a good chance at Carnegie Mellon and Cornell though

I wouldn’t say an extremely high reach. Stanford and the Ivies and schools of the like are reaches for most people, if not all.

However, cortana431 is saying that they are extremely high reaches because of your class rank.

He believes that class rank is extremely important, which is true at certain schools. However, with a 4.0 GPA and still being ranked 37, it is pretty clear that your high school is rather competitive. I think this will be noted.

With that being said, I would like to reiterate my original point of how these schools tend to be reaches for most people. You’re stats certainly put you in the discussion though.

I’m also looking at similar schools :P

Just make sure you show you’re not a cookie cutter Asian in your essays, and you’ve got a pretty good chance I think! :)

You have a great resume! I think you would make a great fit for Stanford.

Good luck!

Stanford is never about stats and tit ends to reject a lot of applicants SCEA. If you are from California your chances are even worse. I wouldn’t waste your SCEA chance @ Stanford.

Thanks for the advice! Anyone else?

All of your test scores are fantastic and will really boost your chances, along with your 4.0 UW GPA. Your rank is decent, and you are still in the top 10%, however it’s a little low for some of the more competitive schools, like HYP.

Stanford is ofc also competitive as far as stats although there seems to be a little bit more emphasis on the ECs and unique talents. I’m not saying that the ivies don’t also stress the ECs a lot, because they do. Unfortunately, the ECs are where you lack just a little. I know you may be thinking, “*** how am I lacking? I hold leadership positions and am involved in tons of clubs and activities, not to mention have lots of volunteering.”

Well, it turns out that TONS of people share very similar ECs, and you don’t really have anything truly unique that would set you apart. I’m not saying that you wouldn’t have a decent chance, just that it’ll be more of a toss-up since you don’t have some sort of impressive award/accomplishment or spectacular part of your resume that stands out.

Nonetheless, at this point all you can really do is make sure you write amazing essays and get a couple fantastic letters of recommendation. I recommend that you try EA/ED at some of the ‘lower’ ivies like Cornell, or a different competitive school like Duke, and you will have extremely good chances at getting in. However you can also take a risk since it’s not RD. Regardless, I’m sure it’ll turn out fine, but make sure to have a couple safety schools. Good luck!

Great input! Anybody else?

would it cut for stanford if you dont have that many ec’s but 1-2 of them are really unique and the others are jsut like olunteering for 100 hrs ? what if you have a 3.6
