Chance me (Rice Engineering) (will chance back)

I'm a white, female rising senior at a very competitive prep school in Houston.

GRADES
Weighted GPA: 11.3 (11-point scale (10=A-,11=A, etc) and not sure how to calculate unweighted based on our system)
Rank: Top 8%
Honors/AP: Taken most rigorous course selection available. 5 AP classes (couldn't take any until junior year), 1 "college level", all honors where AP wasn't offered. Will have taken 7 AP tests by the time I graduate.
School rank: We’re pretty well-known, probably 2nd best school in the city. Virtually the entire top 10% goes to Ivies or “good schools” and 100% of students go to college. Good relationship with Rice, we get at least a couple kids going every year.

TESTS
SAT: 2300 (800 reading, 780 writing, 720 math)- taken once, not submitting
ACT: 35 combined (w/ writing)- taken once, submitting
Best 3 subject tests: 800 Math II, 760 Physics, 770 US History
AP scores: 5 US History, 5 English Language, 4 French (probably not submitting that one)

RESUME
Big ECs: Cross country for all 4 years (captain/senior mentor), lit mag (co-editor in chief senior year + copy editor 2 years), Habitat for Humanity (head of fundraising for our school build + an internship with the local branch in January), exchange trip to France, month-long school trip to China, community service (part of school committee and club, plenty of individual events), summer work at Arboretum, junior camp counselor, Race for the Cure Top 100 fundraiser for 4 years ($15,000 total), VP of environmental club, Model UN
Awards: High honor roll all 4 years, Language Honor Society all 4 years, National Merit Semi-Finalist, AP Scholar, Freshman Academic Merit Award, Junior Physics Award, high scores on AMC 10 and 12, Scholastic Regional Gold Key in writing
Possible major: Engineering (Civil or Mechanical) with a minor in English or Creative Writing.

ESSAYS AND PERSONAL STUFF
Common app essay: Free Choice topic, creative/full of personality. A little risky but totally me.
Optional extracurric essay: Cross Country, talking about being terrible at it but persevering and improving each year
Rec letters: 1. My AP english teacher (2 years) and cross country coach (4 years). Should be really excellent.
2. My honors physics teacher junior year. I did very well in his class but he doesn’t know me very well.
3. (optionally) My AP french teacher (freshman and junior year). Totally awesome and personal.
4. Guidance counselor— I have no idea.

Am I a good fit for Rice? Is this a match or should I be more worried about it?

Definitely apply!

I second that! Of course, there’s no way to predict a decision, but you have a very strong application. Also, 25% of admits are from the Houston area, so go for it! (I’m not making the last statistic up. I volunteer for admissions events and one of the admissions officers told me that.)

As competition, I’m scared.
(of course I’m ED)
