Job/Work Experience: Worked at my Father's grocery store whenever he was short of employees. I would generally work a 10 hour day (satudays) on the rare days he needed me, but it was never something I was committed to.
Volunteer/Community Service: Babe Ruth Baseball Junior Division (13-15 Year olds) Coach. Coached Regular Seasons as well as fall leagues. Ran Instructional camps as well. I also had the privilege of coaching a 13 year old all star team. At this same league I coached for I work on the field every morning before games and renovations in the off-season. In Addition to coaching and working on the field I often worked concessions during nights whenever I wasnt playing myself in the older division. From this League is 500+ Hours. Also during the school year I will weekly spend my saturday mornings volunteering at an Animal Shelters. Right Now at 75 Hours but by end of school year I am expecting 100+
Summer Activities: Summer Baseball, In 2014 Summer I took Calculus III and Additional Topics of Vector Calculus Classes, General Volunteering
Essays: Excellent. Best things I have ever written.
Teacher Recommendations: Calc BC Teacher from last year and coach of Science Olympiad/Chem Teacher
Counselor Rec: I was always in her office talking about anything. I would go in there for a 5 minute question and we would talk for the whole period. I know it will be a good one
Additional Rec: Didnt Send one - Rice said they didnt really want extra recs
Interview: I had one on campus. Went well but wasn't some exceptional conversation.
Other Notes: I have shown exceptional interest especially being from Illinois. I've visited campus twice, overnight stay, campus tour, on and off-campus info sessions, engineering info sessions, was in contact with a alum who I met at the Rice vs Notre Dame football game early this year. It is ridiculous how much I love it and I certainly believe I have expressed that!

bump

Very impressive stats. As you know, Rice is a very competitive school even for excellent candidates like yourself. Your stats are well within the ballpark, and your EC’s really stand out. My gut feeling is that you will be accepted. I think you should consider it a match school. Best of luck!

Thank you for the reply heyhey. Any idea how to deal with the stress while I wait for a decision these next 18 days?

All things considered you are solid in every department, albeit your GPA is statistically lower than your competition. However, considering the rest of your application I would rate Rice as a high match for you considering you applied ED. I would give you around a 33% chance of acceptance with an uncertainty of 10% given how random admissions can be for any school that is ranked in the top 15.

Your scores on are par, but your GPA/rank seem a bit low for Rice’s standards (esp. for an unhooked applicant). It’s worth a shot, at least. Probably a mid-reach.

I agree my GPA is below average

:-c bump bump bump

Your stats are well in range to get in. The GPA in itself isn’t as important as your rank, which is quite good (out of a huge class).

Good Luck.
