Chance Me- Rising Junior, NC resident, 3.94 UW GPA, 31 ACT, IB Magnet HS for biomedical engineering

Don’t send any scores - test or otherwise unless stated by the school most let you self report.

Then you pay only to send to the school you’ll attend.

Don’t use the free send at testing in case you don’t do well. Just don’t!!

You have a 31 act and not even in 11th grade. You’ll be higher.

Enjoy hs. It’s ok to get on mailing lists. But don’t obsess. You can next summer.

Publics don’t typically track interest but yes some will send waivers.

Pitt, at least a few years ago if you did an online session. Miami Ohio refunded the app fee if visited. W&L sent if you applied Johnson. Chicago is you filled out FAFSA. WUSTL sent because we were signed up. Daughter wasn’t interested so didn’t interact. Maybe that’s why. They just wanted more apps.

You never know. Lots of fine schools simply have no app fee too.

You’re way early. Enjoy your year. You don’t want to get burnout.

Whether you go to UNC or U of SC or UNCC you’re gonna do great.

Great news but don’t forget you are a rising Junior. You will burn yourself out. Have a great first semester before you look and year before you obsess. You’re in a fine spot.

Given this statement, and you are aiming for UNC in a very competitive county, you need to consider taking APChem. Yes it is hard. Course rigor is important and dodging it and taking DE instead is likely going to be viewed less positively compared to your peers who (will) take it.

I initially signed up for IB Chemistry but it was underenrolled (even with 120+ IB students and only 4 IB science options) so the course was dropped. My school doesnt usually have AP chem either again because of underenrollment- I heard only 8 people signed up last year, which wasnt nearly enough for a class.

Even tho I go to a large school with a lot of high achieving students the majority of chemistry teachers at my school are remarkably bad at teaching so a lot of students who normally As struggle in honors chem leading to IB/AP chem being underenrolled almost every year due to noone signing up.

I would probably mention that IB chem was underenrolled so I had to choose another IB science in my additional info section

You may be able to take AP Chem through NCVPS online. A lot of students at my kids’ smaller charter school took NCVPS courses. They are open to all NC students. I don’t know that it is a must though. If your school doesn’t offer AP Chem the admissions folks will know that.
