This is a link to my stats and all things needed for chanceme posts. I want to know what my chances would be at RPI. I know my gpa is terrible, but I think I have good SAT score, extra curriculars and essays. Would this still mean I don’t have a good chance? Will applying ed help my chances significantly or is it too much of a reach to bother?
My gut feel says no. Yes, the test score is good.
You need to demonstrate interest for sure (see the paragraph at the end from the RPI website) - but I would find other similar schools as back ups.
Indiana and ASU would be a mild safety although not into the major. Occidental a solid smaller school choice as would Evansville and Beloit.
A couple of Cal State schools may work - Fresno and Stanislaus.
Good luck.
There are plenty of ways to express demonstrated interest without leaving your house! You can check out our Virtual Tour of campus or join our Admissions Team and student ambassadors for a virtual Information Session to have a chance to have your questions answered. Why such a low GPA for such an obviously smart person? ADHD with procrastination and failure to turn in assignments? Clearly, you learn the material - I mean, 5’s on all your APs thus far? 1560? You’ve got to have an IQ of at least 140.
The reason I say this is that if you have found and possibly addressed the cause of the low GPA, that might persuade a school to take a chance on you. Anyway, if you are full pay, I think that RPI might do exactly that, but I’m afraid that they couldn’t provide the support you need, and that you’ll flunk out. bright as you are.
Depending upon what the cause of your poor grades is, you might be better off at a state college close to home that offers the majors that you want. You’d probably be able to get a very high GPA with minimal effort, GRADUATE, and get the job you’re interested in after college.
