National highest in one subject.</p>
<p>looking at princeton, columbia, stanford, CMU, duke.</p>
<p>ECAs are few in number, but they are very very focused, and I have leadership roles in four of them(out of five). Have 2 internships. and 1 research paper(not publsihed).</p>

At the Princeton info session they told us that if every single person they accepted declined, they could get an equally good class from the wait list. Unless you are not only the best applicant they have AND a recruited athlete, it is a crap shoot no matter how good you are.
You just have to hope that one of the five you are interested in sees reason.</p>
