Chance Me: Scripps '22

Hi all! I am a current high school junior wondering about my chances of being accepted ED to Scripps when I apply this fall. Obviously some of my numbers will change a bit, but here’s where I am now:
State: CA
GPA: 3.7 UW/ 4.0 W
APs: Took AP Spanish as a sophomore and got a 4, currently taking APUSH and AP English Language (expecting a 5 in both).
SAT: Just got my score back, and unfortunately got a 1390 because my English score was far lower than what it should have been. Realistically, if I retake it, I believe I can get a 1450.

ECs:
Theatre for over a decade; I’ve acted in 32 shows, directed one, and am stage managing my second now. I am part of ITS.
I am on the executive board of an entirely student-run theatre company. As Development Director, I manage community outreach and events.
I participated in my synagogue’s Confirmation class, and traveled to DC with the Religious Action Center to lobby for reproductive rights.

Volunteer work:
Since the beginning of sophomore year, I have volunteered weekly at a charter preschool that serves children of all socioeconomic backgrounds to try to bridge the achievement gap in the area.
Through the organization Reading Partners, I tutor a young girl who reads below grade level every Wednesday morning before school.
I have created the curriculum for the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula’s first theatre class, which I will be teaching this summer.
Recently took a trip to Portland with my synagogue to learn about the housing crisis and help build houses in an intentional community.

Letters of rec: I will be getting recommendations from two teachers with whom I am very close, and who have known me since my freshman year.

Basically, although my numbers may end up a bit low, I stay extremely busy with extracurriculars and do a lot of volunteer work that ties into the career I want to pursue (education policy reform). Please let me know what you think!

@ireallylovedogs I would say you have as fair a chance as any for getting into Scripps. The admissions process is so random that it’s truly impossible to know who will get in versus not. Scripps really does a holistic admissions process, so just because your SAT scores might be a little lower than the average, it definitely wouldn’t put you out of the running immediately. The care a lot about essays, volunteer work, and extracurricular activities because they want to see what you’d add to the Scripps community as a whole not just a student. They just released the statistics for this year and while it became easier to get in RD, ED had its most competitive year ever at Scripps. Best of luck and hope to see you on campus next fall!

@stoddert hi! sorry to barge in but could you share the link to where the statistics for this year’s admitted students? thank you!

I don’t think anyone posted a results thread. There are a few people that posted in the RD thread though. If it helps my D’s stats are 4.15 weighted gpa, ACT 34 1 sitting, Captain Mock trial team, President GSA, Leadership 4 years. She definitely had some B’s on her transcript! Received Trustee Scholarship. She did not visit but did interview. Good luck

UPDATE: I got a 1520 on my second SAT. Feeling a bit better about my chances now.

did you get in??
