San Diego State is my reach school. I don't think my parents can afford any UC so I really want to go to SDSU.

My SAT combined math and reading is 1160 (660 math, 500 reading) and my cumulative gpa is a 3.53 at the end of junior year. Do you think there's a chance of me getting in?

Have you looked at financial aid? If your income is <50k, cal grant and pell grants could take most of the costs at the UCs off of your hand.

No I haven’t, its not so much like that. its that 2 years after i go to college, my bro gos to college then 2 years later my sister does and they cant afford for all of us to go to UC’s. my parents make over 50k a year.

humm, what about considering city college for 2 years, then transfer into UC?
Sorry… I really do not like the CSU school system, Honestly, its better to just go into city college and then getting a guaranteed transfer (if you just keep your GPA decent)

But if you really what SDSU, then i think you have a decent shot, but I’m not that familiar with the CSU admission system, so don’t take my word for it.

i REALLY do not want to go on the community college route, in fact i’m not going to period. I want a 4 year college experience away from home.

basically here are the schools i’m interested in as of right now

Reach - SDSU
in between or I just don’t know enough about - long beach, sonoma
Fall - Chico

yahh i think im fine for my back ups but i just really want to know about sdsu cause i think im borderline. and i would chance you… but i have NO idea about this kinda stuff. thats why i came on here haha

While your CR score is only average, or a little less, for SDSU, your Math score is well above average for that school so I think SDSU is a very low reach for you, if it is even a reach at all, particularly if you plan to major in a quantitatively oriented discipline.

yah thats what i was thinking also but who knows if they would even notice that because of the eligibility index. by low reach you mean I could probably get in? or its out of range for me.

I think it is very likely that you will be accepted but nothing is guaranteed in college admissions. The only I problem I see is how highly automated the CSU admission process is with the elegibility criteria that you mentioned. If they just stick your CR plus Math total score into a formula and compare you with all other applicants regardless of intended major it would be, as I think you fear, less advantageous for you than if they considered your CR and Math scores seperately and compared you with applicants intending to major in science or engineering.

I think it is very likely that you will be accepted but nothing is guaranteed in college admissions.

alright thats what I thought you meant. and thank you for the opinion!

Good chance, great chance if you live in their service area.

i live northern california so I dont think that would be considered their service area :/

any more thoughts?
