Oh in addition, alumni interview went very well!

Your ECs are very strong, and that’ll definitely help, especially if you bring up your ACT score. And being Catholic doesn’t help, lol. But regardless, I think you have a pretty strong chance of admission. Your application is very clearly geared towards IR and it shows passion, which is always good. Good luck!

@masquerade98 I got my ACT back. I got a 30 C, E: 32 M: 28 R: 35 S: 26. Hopefully my high reading and english scores offset everything else.

@savagestudent7 That’s better, but not by much. You’ll have to hope that ECs are enough to push you over the line.I think you still have a strong chance though.

@masquerade98 If I get deferred, would it be wise to study for the math and science sections of the ACT and retest in February? Would they take my score into consideration even if it says Jan/December testing is the latest?

Possibly impacting a waitlist decision maybe ^

@savagestudent7 Yeah, I think that would be a good idea. That way you’ll have something to offer to the adcoms if you get waitlisted.

While it is impossible to chance accurately since we are not admissions officers, especially without reading your essays, you have a strong curriculum IMO and your ECs are very good and seem to be at the level Georgetown would expect.

Your two weaknesses:
Your ACT is low for Georgetown’s standards, even the 30. If you want a better chance I would try to re-take it so you have something to send in if waitlisted. It’s not impossible to get in with a 30 but it makes it harder.

Your Math 2 SAT II is low ish but I got in with only one of my 5 SAT IIs above a 700 so it might be okay - even better if you apply EA.

@yonceonhismouth I did apply Early Action, so hopefully that helps me from a subject test perspective. Do you think my February scores miiiight be considered in making a RD decision?

They might be considered, but they would definitely be considered if you were waitlisted I believe.

@yonceonhismouth @masquerade98 Guys, I got deferred. I’m honestly not too disappointed because I knew that my ACT would rail me. I called the admissions office and asked what I could do and they just told me to email them with new recommendations, new accomplishments, and that they’ll look at my midyear grades. In regard to testing, they said that my February ACT would only be considered if I was waitlisted. My grades this year are pretty great, I can find new recommenders, I’ve attained a bid to my NCFL-qualifying debate tournament, and I can always write more articles for the publication I write for. However, the notion of my testing being terrible is really getting to me. Do you guys have any ideas as to how else I can improve my chances of admission? If I don’t end up getting into SFS, I always have UVA, W&M, and UMD (In State for VA; OOS for MD) where I will major in Public Policy. At the end of the day, at least I tried.

I’m sorry your result was not what you had hoped. I truly believe that Georgetown looks beyond scores & stats for admission, and is looking for students who would really contribute to the community. In your LOCI, I would identify very specific, individualized things you could do or accomplish if you attend Georgetown. If Georgetown is your number 1 choice and you would attend if admitted, put that too. Make it clear that you really want Georgetown. I would take the ACT just in case you do get deferred. And also, try to visit! Show some more interest, maybe ask if you can meet with an admissions officer or current student just to chat.

@yonceonhismouth what is LOCI? Thanks.

@Twinmma Letter of continued interest

@yonceonhismouth @masquerade98 I got into UVA, so if I end up going there can I still get opportunities comparable to that of a Georgetown student? Keep in mind I live very close to DC

@savagestudent7 Congrats! UVA is a great school, but it kind of depends on what you’re majoring in and what your interests are. Georgetown is known for its strong international relations programs and networking/alumni opportunities since it’s in the heart of DC. I’m not too familiar with UVA specifically other than the fact that it’s a great school in general.
