Chance me, short and simple

GPA (UW) : 3.63
GPA (W) : 4.0
UC GPA : 4.12

Very steep upward trend.

SAT I : 2150 (CR 650, M 750, W 750)
SAT II : 800 Math2, 720 Physics

Took 8 Honors courses throughout Freshman & Sophomore year
8 AP courses throughout Junior & Senior year
Overall very rigorous schedule at my school.

My extracurriculars were mediocre
I didn’t sit on my ass all day after school but I wasn’t the most prominent leader either
I did enough to be considered a decently active student.

Chance me at (out-of-state for all) :

  • UCLA
  • USC
  • UC San Diego
  • Vanderbilt
  • University of Washington (Seattle)
  • University of Wisconsin (Madison)
  • Georgia Tech
  • Virginia Tech
  • Penn State

You have a big, big problem when you can’t list a single EC.

UCLA-high reach due to GPA.

  • USC: reach
  • UC San Diego: reach
  • Vanderbilt: out of reach
  • University of Washington (Seattle): match. Can you pay 55k per year though?
  • University of Wisconsin (Madison)-match
  • Georgia Tech: low-mid reach
  • Virginia Tech: match
  • Penn State: match

no safety?? What was your GPA for each year?

If you don’t have any ECs that shows your interest, then UCLA/UCSD/USC/Vanderbilt/and even UW are out of reach; they already have more than enough candidates who have higher GPA AND impressive ECs, so they have no reason to accept you. It sounds mean and I know, but that’s how admission works in most of times. Your only possible savior may be your LORs and essays.

@paul2752

No worries, honestly I expected some harsher answers. I understand that the first 4 schools on my list are huge~ reaches, but hey I can dream

My guidance counselor stated that I have pretty good chances at Virginia Tech and Penn State according to the past acceptances from my school.

The unweighted GPA i calculated myself because my school only does weighted
9th - 3.6
10th - 4.1
11th - 4.3

I was too lazy to list my mediocre ECs but the ones I could think of are:
-Soccer 4 years (Captain)
-Track 4 years
-National Honor society
-Lifeguard 3 years
-50ish hrs volunteer
-Some type of engineering club
