ucsd: slight reach
ucsb: good chance
ucsc: almost guaranteed
uci: good chance
ucla: reach

if i had any advice, it would be to try and get those sats up.
and have you taken the sat IIs?

ya i got 640 on chemistry and 530 on math 2.

ucsb is my favorite out of those colleges so hearing that i have a good chance really made my day.

did you go to ucsb or some other uc school?

what do other people think. tell me!!

i'll be going to ucsb as a freshman in the fall and i'm so excited i can barely contain myself! lol i've only been to the campus twice (once for the spring open house thing and once for orientation) i couldn't be more happy with my choice. ironically, ucsb wasn't even my first choice to begin with; it was ucsc because of their marine biology program. i liked ucsc and everything, but thats just because i hadn't really looked into any other schools. once i went to the spring open house at ucsb, my first choice amost instantly became sb. after taking a couple tours, listening to other student's experiences, and looking over everything ucsb has to offer, i just felt like i belonged there. weird i know, but it felt like home; it was this huge epiphany type thing haha. it was a really good feeling thinking about going there instead of ucsc. anyway, thats my little story haha..as for getting in, i think you definitely have a chance. i had a 3.6 GPA and a 1710 on the SATs and i got in. but acceptance to a UC isn't based solely on scores and grades, its also based on ECs and stuff like that, which you definitely have..so good luck! i hope my two cents were helpful :)

I.....LOVE.....YOU

you are an amazing person. thank you for making my day.

one more question i want to major in biology, does the major matter( i know about engineering and computers) will i have a better chance with something else. even though i am still going to pick biology no mater what

umm, they really only base it on major if you are trying to get into the college of creative studies or the other one.

but no, im going to be a freshman at ucsb. and i just based how i thought you would do by comparing it to what my friends had who got into all those ucs.

but if ucsb is your top choice, i would say you shouln't worry. you should be fine.

I think you'll be okay. Just prepare a well written personal statement - start early, I didn't start until about two weeks before the deadline and it was such a stressful time as I had to change the topic and make a million revisions. You have a good GPA and plenty of ECs. Emphasize your participation in extracurriculars - UCSB, based on what I've seen, appreciates them.

As for the major question, I don't think they consider it. Many people apply as undeclared, and changing majors is very easy, most people do that quite a few times before they decide on one. I just changed my major from English to biology and it was a simple email to administration. So I wouldn't worry about that.

I fell in love with UCSB the minute I stepped foot onto the campus. Then in the middle of the chaotic application process, and waiting for responses, I sort of forgot my infatuation with the school. I almost picked another UC over it and I am so glad I decided to visit it before making my final decision. (Actually I had already submitted my SIR to another school when I was there, and I ended up canceling it and submitting one to SB. =P ) Anyway, being there reminded me how much I enjoyed the atmosphere, the faculty I met as well as the students, and the fresh air. Remember to go with your gut instinct when choosing your campus. Sometimes, like in my case, you just know. I felt at home there right away. :D

Good luck! Personally I think you'll be fine.

thank you. would it be a good idea to have a someone who got in last year help me revise and plan my essays. she had lower stats than myself, but she probably wrote amazing essays

It's definitely a good idea to have your essays read by a variety of people, but make sure you stay yourself in them. Don't let someone else revise your essay for you. Take their comments and suggestions but make the changes yourself, IF you agree. Remember that the school wants to see who YOU are.
