Chance Me So I feel better lol!! (Ivies, Stanford, UChicago, etc)

Hello CC community!

I’m currently almost done with Junior year and wanted to get a jumpstart on what my expectations for college decisions should be. I know it’s early and whatever, but I’m excited now!

I plan to apply to 5 Ivy League Schools (Harvard, Yale, Brown, UPenn, Columbia), Georgetown, American University, George Washington U, Duke, NYU, Boston U, UChicago, Northwestern, Vanderbilt,Washington U, USC, Stanford, UCLA, UMich, UT Austin, U Washington, UVA, and my state school: University of New Mexico. This list will probably change cause I don’t have time for all these apps but who knows.

Top Choice: Georgetown or Ivy League!

Here are my stats:
SAT: 1550 (800 R, 750 M)
ACT: 35 (36 English, 34 Math, 35 Reading, 35 Science)
SAT II: US History 800, Literature 800, Math I 750, Spanish 790
Unweighted GPA: 4.0/4.0
Weighted GPA: 4.8/4.0
Rank: 2
AP classes: AP Human Geo (5), AP Bio (4), AP Calc AB (4), AP Calc BC (4), AP Art History (5), AP Chem (3), AP World (5), AP Comp/Lang, AP Seminar, AP US, AP Stats, AP Physics
IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
Senior Year Course Load: AP Euro, AP Lit, AP Research, AP Spanish Lang, AP Gov, AP Macroecon, AP Comparative Gov, Newspaper

Extracurriculars: Varsity Tennis (Capitan next year), School Newspaper (Editor in Cheif next year), Student Council (Senior Class President next year), Young Democrats Club (Co-President), Spanish National Honors Society (Co-President)

Job/Work Experience: Summer Job at Chick-Fil-A (2017/2018), Internship with Lobbyist Group at NM Capital Building

Volunteer/Community service: My Church volunteering

Essays: I’m a very good writer (not trying to be cocky, English is my forte, not STEM) so probably something about my coming out experience, not sure. Would give it a 9-10 range.

Recommendations:
Teacher Rec #1: AP English Teacher of two years who I know well.
Teacher Rec #2: AP Gov teacher if I like them enough
Counselor Rec: Very close with her, expect something good.
Additional Rec: Going to ask my tennis coach probably
Interview: Fingers crossed. Good at conversations though.

Other

Just trying to get an early idea now so I’m not as stressed out next year. Thanks for helping me out and giving me some peace. Good vibes everyone!

I’d bet you get into a couple of these.

You share almost identical stats as my son. 35 ACT, all 5s on AP 17 APs, same hook, first in class, same intended major, etc. He was waitlisted to all the Ivies and Georgetown except Princeton who rejected him. I’d say you have as good a chance as any one with those stats but you will increase chances if you can apply ED to your top choice. For example, ED at Cornell increases chances from 11% to over 20% of getting in. Second piece of advice is apply to some match and safety schools because while you qualify for ivies, who knows if you get in. My son got accepted into several good schools with one giving a full tuition scholarship so have a plan B. Good luck with your search.

@FinalFor Thank you so much for the advice. I definitely plan on doing Early Action to my top schools for sure! And yeah that’s what I was thinking. I can get a full ride to my state school already as I qualify for their regent’s scholarship which is automatically applied. I still have some time to figure it out, I’m in the preliminary steps right now if anything! Greatly appreciate your suggestions!

Hey, you have a really great chance! Esp since your from New Mexico and usually New Mexico isn’t competitive so you will stand out cause you have really great stands and extracurriculars. Everything you have a great shot at except maybe Harvard, Yale & Columbia.

@sanjanagupta1 Thank you that’s what my counselor mentioned, and yeah they’re my reach schools but you never know!

You are a competitive applicant. Your stats and ECs are great. Write good essays, apply early decision, and you could get accepted to any of these schools

@risingseniorabq yeah u def could get in (just dont want to give false hope lol) the college process has been so odd at my school so tbh I have no clue what colleges r looking for but I think u have a great shot

@sanjanagupta1 Of course, I know its a shot in the dark at this point. Just trying to get an estimation at my odds. Thanks again!
