Chance me stanford,harvard,princeton.

hello,
I am Anand.G from India.I got 2400 on SAT.My Toefl score is 117.I also took AP tests, scored 5 in calculus BC,phyics C(mechanics,Electricity & Magnetism).I got 800 on SAT math lev-2,800 on sat physics.my GPA is 3.7 on 4.0 scale.I am interested in particle physics and cosmology.

Well,a bit about myself:
My family conditions are utterly poor. And my father's health condition is very bad.Inspite of all these things,a person avuncular tome supported in financial way by gettng all the applications of SAT,TOEFL,AP tests, etc.

Due to all my peurious conditions I could not participate in extracurriculars. But I acted as voulenteer in many of my church's programs and camps.I also won many prizes in Bible quizes.I also play Guitar,Jazz,Casio in church for youth sessions and also main sessions(sometimes).

I am applying for Stanford,Princeton & Harvard universities.Do I have any chance to get a seat in any one of the abovementioned colleges.

Your standardized test scores are fabulous and can get you in. Your gpa is pretty decent and won’t hold you back. However, considering the fact that your an international student and your applying for financial aid (I presuming you will be), it’s hard to say especially with such top tier schools. I encourage you to apply, as your chances look very bright.

AMAZING test scores… Wow lol

anyway, like the poster said above the only thing that makes it difficult to chance is that you are international

I cant think of anything to say but to wish you all the best.Your chances are very good, you deserve a better life and education.

Apply to these schools, but also to some mid competitive and safeties (like the ones which want only academically strong student)…

Stats are awesome…

“However, considering the fact that your an international student and your applying for financial aid (I presuming you will be), it’s hard to say especially with such top tier schools.”

these schools are need blind, so don’t worry, applying for financial aid will not hinder your chance of admissions in any way.

^HazelCapri has no idea what he/she is talking about.

Schools are need blind for domestic students, not need blind for international students.

Most likely rejection at those 3 schools.
Without significant EC’s or research, and with low GPA, test scores alone will not get you into those colleges.

However, keep up the good work and don’t give up hope!

^Harvard and Princeton are both need-blind for internationals, too.

@eak325: as already mentioned, both H and P are need blind for international students. stanford has an endowment large enough that you’re not going to be rejected just for applying for financial aid if you’re good enough to be admitted otherwise. as for the low gpa, it is apparent that the OP’s high school has a harsh grading curve since her satII scores are incredibly high, and her life circumstances do play a role and pose interest.

extracurriculars do not have to be research or winning notable awards, etc. having a job and paying entirely for the bills of the family can be a significant EC. caring for a family member shows a lot of maturity and can count as an extraccuricular. being extremely involved in the local community is also significant. not saying that OP has necessarily done these, but lacking what we conventionally consider to be “ECs” does not necessarily preclude her/him from admission to good colleges.

but yes, you’re right, admission rates for HPS are so low that it’s unlikely, just from the odds alone, that the OP will be admitted. what worries me is that though playwithall has a good chance at many universities in the u.s., most will not give him/her the financial aid she/he needs to afford college.

^very fair description.

slight bow

thank you guys for taking a bit of pain to answer my question.

Hey,I do have another question:
Can I apply for the application fee waiver from the universities(stanford, harvard, princeton).
Please could you help me to know the top research institutes in particle physics and cosmology at the undergrad level in USA.

Once again thank you people…

amazing stats, no ECs, very strong background (although it is a poor background, it is good)

the most important thing, in my opinion, is to write a killer essay. you can talk about your life, how you survive in poverty, taking care of your dad etc. This can be a great essay.

There was once a girl who went to jail, and when she got out she went to Yale. obviously, she didnt have great ECs or great stats, but she had an amazing essay - she wrote about how to survive the streets, getting raped, selling drugs, etc.

anyways, my point is, i think you can get accepted if you write a fantastic essay.

please answer my question in 9th post

International might hurt…

My aunt is admissions counselor at harvard and she told me that the need blind is all a joke. They look at financial status heavily. Also, harvard isn’t need blind for internationals

Also, fr Stanford,

There are only 6 international Indians kids this year and all 6 are paying the full 60k. No financial aid for any of them. Stanford is not need blind for internationals. I don’t know about Princeton tho

@OP you should try and write a very powerful essay that captures your life experiences. All the hardships you have faced can ironically be your gateway out of them.from my understanding HYP are need blind for everyone.I know a person in a similar situation as yours who was admitted to H with full aid(way after the deadline for some odd reason) because the AOs were just so enthralled by his story. So please,do not be discouraged.
