Chance me: Stanford

What do you think are my chances for Stanford? I'm applying early.

SAT: 2400
SATII: 720 Bio-E, 730 Chem, 740 Math 1
APs: 5 on English, US History, World History, Biology; 4 on French

GPA- 6.8 (6 point weighted scale; honors and AP counted 1 point above on-level)
Grades- mostly high As, some middle As, a few low As.
Class rank- 10/740ish. This is due to taking on-level classes, not bad grades.
Senior course load: Calc BC AP, Stat AP, Chem AP, Physics, English AP, Gov/eco AP, band.
School type- pretty good public school in Houston, TX

Extracurriculars:
Band; I'm a very good clarinet player, though not a prodigy. I'm first chair and have been in Area band, region band etc. I plan to submit the arts supplement. I'm also a squad leader and section leader in marching band
NHS (ran for, didn't win an officer position :()
French Club (Treasurer, 11th grade)
French NHS (President, 10th grade)
HOSA (Reporter, 11th-12th grade
Key Club
Environmental Club
Volunteering at animal shelters (300+ hours, mostly after 9th and 10th grade, none this summer)

Summer course: microbiology at Colorado College (stanford summer program conflicted with band camp)
Employment: 15hr/week during summer at a kennel.

Ethnicity- white
Sex- F
neither first generation nor legacy.
Location- Houston
No interesting background or trauma in my past.

Awards- honor roll; AP distinguished scholar; outstanding in Bio, Comp sci, Chem; various band awards; national merit semifinalist (haven't gotten any results for finals).

Essays: haven't written them yet; I write well, but I won't be able to say anything that stands out.
Recommendations- bound to be good, I have 2 teachers and a counselor who like me.

Please tell me what my chances are? Thanks!! I'll chance you too, though I probably won't be much help.

outstanding in Bio, Comp sci, Chem What does that mean? And why are your subject tests so not good contrasted with your 2400? I’m terrible at Chem and Math, but i 800ed Chem and Math 2. Oh yeah, Math 1 subject doesn’t count for any schools…
Also, your leadership positions are in French…but you got a 4? Need moar APs and…like all top-notch universities: a “special”, distinguishing factor. Also, chances ain’t supposed to be in this forum.

^that was kind of a bitter post. I think you have good chances. Maybe take the Math II subject test? Chance me?

Out of every 30 applicants, they will take two out of the 20 with stats not unlike yours. Having an 800 on a section of the SATI raises the odds to just under 20%, so having a 2400 might make it 30%. The sentence that scares me the most in your profile is that you “won’t be able to say anything that stands out” in your essays. Stanford has a reputation for choosing people who stand out over bland 4.0/2400/36ers. If you want to go to S, you better find an angle for those essays.

Thanks for your post. It’s a breath of fresh air to hear someone being realistic rather than people from my school saying I’m a shoo-in.

I don’t know why I didn’t do so well on the subject tests; I just didn’t study I guess… also I’d only taken 1 year each of chem and bio at that point. I took them again today as well as math level 2.

French at my school is kind of a joke; no one else has gotten above a 3. also French positions are elected, not appointed based on grades. Of course, Stanford won’t know that.
I don’t really see how I could have more APs. The only way I could do that is to have taken two language tests; there is only 1 AP test in French.

Sorry for posting in the wrong forum. I saw someone else had posted chances here and assumed it was OK.

Thanks also to UT84321 for the numbers.

I really don’t think I’ll get in to Stanford. But for that 10-30% chance, I applied, because you never know. I did organize an awareness week/fundraiser at my school; that’s obviously not as special as, say, going to the Olympics or publishing a novel like some applicants have.
Maybe the 2400 will help on my second-choice, more traditional schools.

your stats are good as anybody’s.

essays will the clincher, so squeeze your heart and brain like sponges for that one essay.

Thanks guys. I got into Stanford :)

Awesome! Congrats!!
