Chance Me (Stern)!

Hi guys. I’m just another almost-junior with big dreams. Studying finance at Stern has been a dream of mine for a long time, so I would appreciate if y’all left any feedback and any tips for my last two years. Thanks!

Age: 15
Sex: M
Race: Asian
State: Iowa

The high school of ~2000 I go to is often regarded as the best public high school in Iowa (although that’s not really saying much).
Our school had 8 people accepted into Ivy League schools this year.

UW GPA after 6 trimesters: 3.93 ( thanks to my incompetence in AP Chemistry for two trimesters)
My high school does not rank.
My PSAT in 10th grade was 1460. Aiming for at least a 1500 this year.
My ACT in 7th grade was 31 and I’m aiming for at least a 35 when I take it again in September.

Extracurricular Activities:
Club swimming – I’ve been swimming club for around 7 years and have qualified for state three times. At state, I’ve gotten
third three times.
HS swimming – Two years varsity so far, and probably two more years varsity. I’m currently slated to be one of the future captains, but just to be safe, I’m assuming that I won’t be.
TSA TEAMS – A STEM competition. I’ve done it for two years, qualified for nationals both years, and I am definitely
planning to do it for two more years. In 9th Grade, I was the captain of our team at nationals, and we finished 6th in the nation for our essay.
Mu Alpha Theta --I’ve done it for two years, planning to do it for another two years.
Math Club – It’s like Mu Alpha Theta, except it’s not part of a national organization. Also planning for this to be a four-
year tenure.
Debate Club (9)-- Did it for one year, hated it, and dropped.
Volunteering – So far, I’ve recorded around 150 hours at the local VA hospital. I’m planning to record ~250 hours by the
beginning of senior year.

I’m thinking about joining the Young Republicans chapter at my school. I’ve also applied to open a TILE TALKS chapter at my school.

Honors:
I’m pretty lacking in this category. I’ve qualified for the GMPL math state championships both years of high school. I’ve also qualified for regionals and nationals both years, but due to scheduling conflicts, I have been unable to attend. I’ve also been recognized by the Belin-Blank program for the Belin-Blank Exceptional Student Talent Search. I am not planning to apply for the NHS program because I’ve heard that it’s pointless (no offense to anyone in the NHS reading this).

First of all, hi, I’m a senior in the fall (from high school), but I have friends who were admitted to NYU for '21, and I think that could be a good reference.

Foremost, congrats! You have pretty awesome stats right now, especially considering that you have national ranking in several areas. I think you’d have a good shot at nyu as long as nothing goes wrong because you’ve clearly done a lot, and well. I wouldn’t worry considering you have 1.5-or-so years to further your merits. Honestly. You are going to be a junior, so just make that year great, and I believe you have it. Good luck and don’t stress because you’re only 15 and you have a lot to look forward to!
