Chance me?? Student athlete

Okay here is my situation. I'm an all-state caliber Track and Field athlete.. receiving scholarship offers from a few schools. A coach from Penn has been heavily recruiting my all summer, and I was even flown out for an official visit. And I've made it clear to him that Penn was my #1 and I'm applying ED. This all sounds peachy, but he has made it clear, while he can make his case for me in admissions, it is not a guarantee I'll get in.

So these are my good stats I guess...

33 ACT. (super-scored 34)
2 recs from teachers - English and Sociology (I'm majoring in communications)
1 strong rec from my track coach (i have read)
Good extra curricular.
VERY solid essays.

Here are the sad stats :(
Did not take any AP courses, but all my classes were honors
Horrid GPA.. 3.6 weighted.
2 D's junior year due to being very sick (explained in a doctors letter)
Many people from my school with better stats applying ED as well

Pretty much every athlete at Penn during my official visit told me I would get in since I was being flown out... I'm not so sure though. Let me know what you think!

Hmmmm, no AP courses? That will look really bad; the only exception would be if your school didn’t offer them. If your GPA is 3.6 weighted how much is it unweighted? Have you even taken Subject Tests? Your stats are really low and while the Track stuff is a definite boost and the coach dude there are others who are just as good w/ better stats. If your GPA is that low I don’t even think you could handle Penn (but I’m basing this off your stats, whadoiknow? right). Anyway good luck.

i agree. i dont think track is enough to justify such seemingly low stats. i could be mistaken though, i don’t know very much about sports recruiting

Update: deferred. Better than rejected I guess… haha.
