<p>Current GPA: 3.4 weighted
(I'm working on boosting this to about a 3.7 by the time I apply next year. My junior year GPA so far is above a 4.0... needless to say I had a big sophomore slump.)</p>
<p>October SAT
Composite: 2060
Critical Reading: 690
Math: 580
Writing: 790
(Taking it again this spring to raise my scores, especially Math.)</p>
<p>Honors Classes
Freshman Year: Honors Spanish 2
Sophomore Year: Honors Spanish 3, Honors British Literature
Junior Year (now): Honors Spanish 4, Honors English American Studies, Honors US History 1, Advanced Drawing, Art Portfolio Development (1/2 year)
(Senior year I plan on taking AP English Literature, AP US History 2, and AP Spanish Language)</p>
<p>School Extracurriculars
Freshman Year: String Ensemble, School Art/Literary Magazine, Gay-Straight Alliance
Sophomore Year: Fall Drama Stage Crew, School Musical Stage Crew, School Art/Literary Magazine, Gay-Straight Alliance
Junior Year: Art Club, Fall Drama Stage Crew, School Musical Stage Crew, School Art/Literary Magazine, Gay-Straight Alliance</p>
<p>Other Extracurriculars
I have been playing the cello with private lessons since the 4th grade, but since the end of freshman year the school string ensemble has been inactive. Last summer I passed the ASTA Level 2 Cello exam, and this summer I am skipping a level for a certificate as a Level 4 cellist.
I am also strongly involved in the visual arts. This year my high school is auctioning off some of my artwork to raise money for the art program.</p>
<p>Other
I am going to apply for the NYU Steinhardt summer program.</p>
<p>Also, it is noteworthy that during my sophomore year I went through a throw of 'atypical depression' (depression runs genetically in my family; my parents and my grandparents have all suffered from depression) during which my motivation (and, as a result, my grades) dropped drastically.
I plan on including this information in a part of my essay, though I do NOT intend on making it a whiny, "woe-is-me" sob story. I have since become extremely motivated and I have not gotten anything lower than an A (not even an A-!) so far this year.
I plan on continuing this academic rigor in hopes of redeeming myself for my sophomore slump.</p>
<p>Any suggestions or thoughts? How much of a stretch is this going to be for me?
Thank you SO MUCH for your help!!!!</p>
