Chance Me? SUNY Schools (Stony Brook, Binghamton, Buffalo & Albany)

As of last October, my SAT score is a 1660:
Math - 580
Critical Reading - 510
Writing - 570

My GPA as of Junior Year last year is around a 2.9 to a 3.0 (around a 84-85 i guess)

I was on the Wrestling Team last year and I'm the captain of the Golf team this year. I've been on the Golf team since Sophomore year.

I have like over 250 hours in Community Service and I have work experience from Summer jobs.

This year I've stepped it a notch and been getting 90s in my classes and stuff, trying to raise my average even though they might not even see it.

I just want to know my chances for the SUNY schools. I really want to get into Stony Brook.

Here are my other list of schools, if you want to chance me on those please feel free.

* CUNY Baruch C

Thanks,
Arthur

You will most definately get into a lot of those SUNY schools. That's a pretty extensive list. Are you seriously applying to ALL of those?

Yep, lol. I'm just really paranoid about not getting into any schools.

Which SUNYs are you talking about in particular?

Binghamton is really hard to get into now; much more than it was five years ago. The other SUNYs you might get into, and you will get into all the CUNYs, also Pace, the two Pa campuses.

NY Mom here- Artluo my kid had a higher GPA but lower SAT/ACT score and got into SUNY Albany and Buffalo- so I think you have a shot at those schools, but it is not a sure thing. I think SB and Bing are tougher to get into than UB and Albany.
Any reason you didn't apply to the SUNY colleges too?? My d is a sport management major at Cortland.
I think you can apply to up to 7 schools on the SUNY application. I might suggest you throw in a few SUNY colleges like Cortland, Oneonta etc. too.
If you are into science, you may want to check out the SUNY ESF program on the Syracuse U campus. Suny prices and living on the Syracuse campus-- very nice combo!! But it is a limited science program and may not meet your academic needs.
You do seem to be applying to alot of schools. I do agree with Muffy- you will get into the Cuny's, and Pace- and I think Temple too.
My d was also accepted by Temple with an 89 average and 23 ACT (equivalent to 1060 SAT). I thought Temple had alot to offer.

my kid also applied to a bunch of schools (9 or 10) as we felt her stats were also on the "cusp of acceptance" . She may have lucked out- as she was accepted to all but 1.
so sometimes it may be better to apply to a bunch of schools to ensure some solid acceptances. But I am sure, you will have some nice choices come April.

Good Luck!!

Thankss, hopefully I'll get into most of my colleges, but yeah I'd rather have a good handful of schools to choose from in the Spring rather than 1 or 2.

I really have my eyes on Stony Brook. Any more people want to chance me on Stony Brook?

:)

good luck with Stony Brook- but it is not a sure thing. If you are interested in SB because of the sciences, you really should check out ESF
www.esf.edu
I'm pretty familiar with SUNY as my d did apply to 7 SUNY schools and I graduated SUNY Oswego-- so if you want a little info about the SUNY programs, you may want to give me some info as to what your interests or major may be. I might be able to direct you to some good SUNY programs in addition to Stony Brook
marny

I want to go for Business Management or Finance.

The campus is also pretty nice, Stony just seems like an almost perfect school for me since it's far enough to dorm but close enough to home (I live in NYC) plus paying in-state tuition. Really can't beat that. Bing is also another one but it's really out of my league.

if your criteria is to dorm and also be close to NYC, you can also check out SUNY Old Westbury. They definitely have business majors.
SUNY Farmingdale is also on Long Island, but not sure if they have business majors.
I'm double crossing my fingers that you will get into Stony Brook, but do yourself a favor please apply to one or two less competitive Suny's!!
I think my alma mater- oswego is pretty good for business- but it's mighty COLD up there.
Honestly, if you are in NYC, Baruch may have the strongest business program of all the schools mentioned-so don't rule it out.
I'm not that familiar with CUNY admission stats. I know the 4 year CUNY's are alot more selective than they were a few years ago.

also- alot of the SUNY's have rolling admission- so I suggest you get your application in ASAP. Good luck

I will be sure to look at the other SUNYs that you mentioned. I'm definitely going to be looking at Baruch. I think it might be a safety for me but it's becoming more selective.

I'm trying my best to send in all my applications ASAP haha

thank you so much :)

So I received my SAT scores last week and here are my scores:

Math : 630
Critical Reading : 510
Writing : 570

and I received my decision from St. Johns on Thanksgiving last week and I got in! Just letting you guys know.

Thanks,
Arthur

Umass Amherst for Business will be tough. It's a very competitve program (their second most competitive next to nursing).

Nail your essay, and you have a shot

Congratulations on St. John's- The first acceptance is always so great- I am sure you will have a number of good acceptances to choose from.

with your boost in the SAT, I think you have a good chance at a number of your schools including the CUNY's- Pace-Temple and a few of the SUNY schools. Hope Stony Brook comes through for you too-

Hey guys, just wanted to update you with my latest acceptance.

I got into New Paltz for Finance. Found out this weekend by their online status checker.

:)

Oh and here is my updated college list:
- St. John's University (Accepted)
- SUNY New Paltz (Accepted)
- American University
- CUNY Baruch
- Drexel University
- Fordham University
- Indiana University
- Northeastern University
- Penn State
- SUNY Albany
- SUNY Binghamton
- SUNY Buffalo
- SUNY Oswego
- SUNY Stony Brook
- SUNY Old Westbury
- Syracuse University
- University of Massachusetts
- University of Pittsburgh

It may be pretty close with Stony Brook. I feel like I was at the lower end of who was accepted this year.
GPA: 91%
SAT: M:580, CR: 570, W: 570

Also got into New Paltz and Albany

congrats on New Paltz. I liked the New Paltz campus alot too. (and it's not too far from NYC-) so it really does meet a bunch of your needs.
still "crossing my fingers" for Stony Brook- but at least you already have a few solid choices.

Congrats on New Paltz and thank you for updating on your college quest!

Congrats also! From what I've heard, New Paltz sounds like a great school!

Oh thanks:D I'm not really planning on going there anymore though. I didn't really research what majors they have and as it turns out, they don't really have a lot of selection with what I may want to do (language).

But I wish you all the luck with getting into your desired schools! You seem like a very strong applicant:)

So I just found out last week that I got into SUNY Oswego. I got deferred from University of Pittsburgh earlier this week and Indiana University (Kelly Program) put me on waitlist. So I guess we'll see what happens.

Thanks everyone for keeping up with me on this thread. I appreciate it :)
