So... please evaluate me to your best ability...

My school (public, 2000 students) technically doesn't rank, but it includes very vague decile ranges on the school profile. I should be first decile.

AP Scores: Eng Lang (5), APUSH (5), Span. Lang (5), AP Latin Vergil (5)
SAT: CR 720, Math 660, W 800
SAT II: Math II 710, Latin 760

Extracurricular: JV tennis 3 years, undefeated if that means anything (though our time is very competitive, we do well at states and win local tournaments); Editor in Chief of school literary magazine for 3 years; no community service or work experience

Other: I've done a lot in the summers; after freshman year I took English classes at Exeter (the high school), after sophomore year I took Russian and English at Carnegie Mellon for credit and got A's in both, after junior year I took Attic Greek at University of Chicago for credit and got an A. Also, I published a research paper on Ovid in the Concord Review

My teachers like me a lot, so I know that recs are impressive. My essays are very strong; they'll be a big asset, I think. In ascending order of preference I'm interested in linguistics, comparative literature, and classics.

Anyway please tell me what you think. I realize that my EC's are sparse and some of my grades are iffy, but I've done a lot to concentrate myself in languages.

Schools:

Brandeis
Carnegie Mellon
Cornell (double legacy)
Haverford
Pomona
Reed
Stanford
Swarthmore
University of Chicago
University of Rochester
University of Southern California

Thanks!

Brandeis
Carnegie Mellon-low reach (again because of math test scores)
Cornell (double legacy)- low reach
Haverford
Pomona
Reed
Stanford- very high reach
Swarthmore
University of Chicago- reach. math not strong enough in test csores
University of Rochester- in
University of Southern California- match

BUMP.10char

You are good, but with Stanford they get 4.0 and 2400 candidates that get turned down making it a high reach for you.

Your math scores are going to make it a bit hard for you to get into Cornell, CM, and University of Chicago. But your legacy should help out.

The rest should be good, high match…

chance me back please :)

Cornell (double legacy)-match
Haverford-low match
Pomona-reach
Reed-match
Stanford-high reach
Swarthmore-reach
University of Chicago-low reach

The LACs and UChicago care more about your personality than most other schools, so your essays should be an asset to your application. Pomona and Swarthmore are definite reaches, since they’re academic powerhouses and your GPA isn’t too high.

Good luck!
