Chance me! (Target is transfering to UC Berkeley, actually any UC!)

Hey guys. I've been reading these forums for quite some time now but have never actually made an account or posted... until now! I would greatly appreciate it if you all wouldn't mind chance'ing me.

GPA: 3.5 UC Transferable
Intended Major: Geography
E.C.'s: 1) English Peer tutor at the school's Learning Center.
2) Supplemental Instruction in remedial English courses offered at the school.

As far as my situation, I began at the local community college about 5 years ago and did fairly poor. It is here that all of my "C" grades reside. I decided to take some time off and see the world to find not only what I wanted to study but explore the world in addition to myself. Every year, I would save up all of my money and splurge on trips to Australia, China, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, and of course, my own backyard: The Midwest. It seemed as though wherever I went, I tended to be attracted to the multiple cultures that quite frankly often clashed. In Australia I spent time exploring the borders of the outback and learning about the Aborigine history and their modern social conditions. In China, instead of going to somewhere like Beijing, Hong Kong, or Macau, I went to a small North Eastern province city called "Shenyang" where to my surprise, had a lot of North Korean escapees (they definitely had the North Korean accent that is so distinct from even the country side South Korean accent). I was absolutely amazed by the little "Korea Town" they created for themselves. I certainly don't want to write too much but after various trips around the world, I finally came to a major that I truly have a passion for: Geography! Since then, it has become increasingly easier to focus and my average GPA has been 3.8. Now I know that I can't do anything about the C's I received but I hope that the grade trend along with my personal statement will help to make me more competitive. What do you guys think?

Lastly, guys, I have pretty thick skin so let her rip!

In which state are you a community college student? Its fairly easy to transfer from a CA CC to a UC, but its somewhat harder if you aren’t in CA.

Whoops! Sorry for leaving out that information.

I am a California Resident (Bay Area specifically) and am also an American born Korean and will be the first generation to have obtained a college degree if I graduate.

You could have applied for TAG, which would have guaranteed your admission to the UCs up to UCSD (for now).

Cal and UCLA will be hard unless if you can dazzle the adcom with a description of your unique ECs and how they helped you grow and mature.

I’m planning to TAG into Davis but I really wish I could do it for Berkley! The TAG apps are due in September and the regular transfer apps are due in November; however, I have already begun working on my personal statements. I’ll keep what you said in mind as I write it up! I appreciate your input very much. =]
