Chance Me Texas! Engineering

I'm an Asian male, attending a semi-competitive public school in Houston, Texas.

Texas A&M, University of Texas

Looking to major in Bio medical or chemical engineering.

GPA: 6.1/7

Class Rank: 136/750

SAT: Which would be better to send in?
580(reading), 630(math), 510(writing) or
570(reading), 630(math) and 540(writing)

AP: English III (3) <-- ......

Senior Year Course: Physics II AP, Calculus AB, AP environmental science, Gov/Eco, English IV AP

Will I get into the engineering schools at either A&M or UT??! Any feedback would be very appreciated!

Bump! I will chance back quickly!!!

I think UT is definitely a reach and A&M is somewhat of a reach as well, due to your SAT scores and the fact that you are in a competitive applicant pool at both schools. Your chances are just more realistic at A&M. Your lowish math score will hurt you for engineering. I would send in your SAT that has the higher overall score because I think getting (close) to a mid-1700 looks better than a low-1700.
Good luck!

hearing that A&M is somewhat out of a reach as well really irks me! Thanks for the quick reply!

It should have read “somewhat of a reach” and not out of reach. You have very realistic chances of admission at A&M. Your scores are within range!

UT is a much tougher school to get into than A&M, I think you have a very realistic chance of getting into A&M, especially over UT

I am a junior and i also want to major in Aeronautical Engineering. I dont mean to scare you but it is the truth and did shocked me. One of my friend, currently a senior applied to UT for Bio medical Engineering with a 2200 SAT and he was rank 21 out of 636 top 4% and still got rejected. The reason he got from the admissions council was that if he wanted to get an automatic admission for Engineering to UT, he had to be in the Top 2%. He had alot of EC’s, also reached various national level competitions. Taking the SAT II helps alot. Try math because thats is you weak score on your SAT. So if you did really good on the SAT II. Your chances might be automatic admission to UT.
Good Luck.

UT engineering - you need to be in top 5% or better.

A&M - You need better SAT scores.

UTD - You are qualified.

You seem to be qualified also for UH.
