*looking to major in entrepreneurial studies and design

*applying:
Barnard College (my dream school, i'd do anything to go here)
Brown University (5 year duel degree program brown/risd)
Rhode Island School of Design (5 year duel degree program brown/risd)
Georgetown University
New York University
Sarah Lawrence College
Wellesley College
Boston College
Swarthmore College
Vassar College
UCLA/Berkeley
Fordham University
Northeastern University
University at Buffalo Honors College

Well.....you have superb EC's. Your grades are good considering the tough courseload and rigor of your school. But your SAT score is not top drawer. Its on the bubble, frankly. Fordham's scores have been rising rapidly the past 3 or 4 years and its getting very very hard to get in. A 1200 SAT is not going to catch anyone's attention. Its not bad, but its not stellar either. Frankly, I think you need more match schools and safety schools, so you better get cracking. As for Barnard, Brown, RhodeIsland School, Georgetown, NYU, Wellesley, BC, Swarthmore, Vassar, UCLA and Berkeley, I think those are all reach schools for you to be honest. I think you have too many of them to be honest, though you never know what may happen. Fordham is a tough match school for you. Sarah Lawrence is like Fordham for you. Northeastern and U Buffalo will likely accept you. Its too late to retake the SAT.

That is my honest opinion. I wish you luck.

Do you have a hook at any of the schools such as legacy or knowing someone in admissions?

If you signal to schools you are just dropping an application in the pool and are not that interested, its not a good thing. Nothing wrong with having a preferred number one choice, we all have them. But be careful how you project that to others.

my mother graduated from fordham, and my cousin from gtown. But that's it, as far as legacies. In each of the essays, I projected that I was VERY interested in each school.. as i am. I could see myself studying at each of them. So, you're basically saying that you think my SAT score will get my rejected from all schools but northeastern and ub?

"Has traveled to over 35 countries on 5 different continents"

Wow. I haven't cross the tri-state yet.

as for your chances, coin flip. there are the good and there are the bad.

Yes. Your SAT score while good and certainly above average for the average in the United States, it is in the muddled middle of the pack for the very ambitious college applicant pool. I am not saying Fordham will reject you, only that you are even a tad below the 50th percentile, which is rapidly approaching a 1250 average. Your amazing EC's are wonderful and that will certainly help. I am also not saying that your long list of reach schools will all reject you. You may catch the eye of an admissions team and they may decide to admit you. Being a cousin of someone from Georgetown doesnt count. Even being a daughter doesnt always count....it usually requires a big donation. And some schools could care less about legacy while others are very sensitive to it. I wish you the best of luck, but to be more secure you need more match schools with your SAT score. So get moving! Pick schools with later admissions deadlines and schools that you can honestly see yourself attending and being happy. In this day and age, nothing is a certainty.

Look at Marist, Manhattan, St. Johns, Temple, Drexel, Canisius, Syracuse, etc.....and get moving....the clock is ticking!

Most of those deadlines already passed on the 1st. Plus, I'm not really sure I would be happy at any of those schools. I dont know, I guess I'll just wing it, see what happens. There's still the interview right?
And so you dont think that they might chose to overlook my test scores if my ecs outshine them? That's what a few people on the brown/barnard/gtown thread said. I dont know though, still worried a bunch.

EC's count...but only if you are in the pile of potential acceptees and I dont know what they will do with you. My criticism is that you have too many reach schools and not enough match schools. Ignore my advice at your peril. I wish you well, but frankly, you would be very foolish to not submit applications to schools with 1/15 application deadlines or 2/1 deadlines, of which there are plenty. Interviews are most often voluntary and non mandatory at most schools.

I know someone who got into Brown this year and then opted to defer his own enrollment and took a gap year.

I am just saying that a 1200 SAT is a good score, but its clearly in the lower half and even lower 25th percentile of the reach schools you mentioned. You may get lucky.

Eskimo, Fordham does not give interviews. While your EC's are very impressive, there is no telling how your application will be viewed. I have to agree with seafoodlover. You could be taking a big chance. It looks like a lot of your schools could be possible reaches with your SAT's & B's on your report card. Read this story about Andison, and please learn from it. You may want to add some safeties to your list. Lots of schools have rolling admissions & you can look into that as well. Time is short:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/47867-were-picking-up-pieces-but-what-went-wrong.html

My opinion for what it's worth (not much at this point :) )
Forget about Swarthmore, Brown, the RISD/Brown dual program, Wellesley & Berkeley.

You should be in at SLC, Fordham, Northeastern & Buffalo (although I don't know about entry to the honors program).

Barnard, NYU, Georgetown, BC, Vassar are hard to call. Barnard is especially quirky in admissions. Your ECs will count there as will your essays and recommendations. From what you've told us about your goals I can't imagine that you would find what you're looking for at Georgetown or BC anyway.

Usually at this time of year a thread pops up on this board listing schools that are still taking applications. Ask for that and see if any appeal.

Is it too late to take the ACT and submit it as a supplement?

Good luck and let us know how you do.

I'm sorry to say but you did not pick schools wisely. While
SATs are not the end all and be all, they are very important. Yoor scores do not make you a "shoe-in" at Fordham by any means.

If I did not pick schools wisely (which, for some, I do agree with you), which schools would you recommend instead? I just applied to Washington University at St. Luios today and I'm open to anymore suggestions.. it's so hard to asses opinions however cause there's so many and they're all so different. I really appreciate the feedback though, thank you.

Eskimo, I had to check your previous posts to see if you were for real. WUSL with a 560 cr - I'm at a loss for words. If you are serious about this, I would think you would be checking the college websites for acceptance stats and apply to some schools where you fall in the top or middle range. Seadfoodlover made several suggestions above and here are some possible safeties with the average SAT accepted in 2007 from my d's NY school: Adelphi 1137; American 1270; Boston U 1280; Catholic U 1130; U Chicago 1100; CUNY City College 1180; CUNY Honors College 1170; Fairfield 1220; Manhattan College 1150; Marymount Manhattan 1200; U Miami 1200; Muhlenberg 1200; Pratt Institute 1200; Quinnipiac 1130; Rutgers 1150; U Scranton 1150; Stonehill 1200; Tulane 1200.

Average SAT acceptances from my d's school for the schools you applied to were: Barnard 1470;
Brown 1460
Georgetown University 1520
New York University 1340
Sarah Lawrence College 1340
Washington U St. Louis 1460
Wellesley College 1390
Boston College 1390
Swarthmore College 1400
Vassar College 1400
UCLA/Berkeley 1460
Fordham University 1280
Northeastern University 1280
University at Buffalo Honors College 1300

And I'm not sure if you made a Freudian slip about our opinions when you misspelled assess! LOL!

Also, here's a list of colleges with rolling admissions:

Colleges with Rolling Admissions

Good grief...either you are a board troll......playing head games, or you have a serious inability to grasp reality. I have lost patience with you. People...ignore Eskimo. Its not worth your effort to help someone like this.

Ridiculous. Sorry, but that is the truth.

Lol. Fordhamgrad this is not your playground. She'll realize the truth come april. That list of rolling admissions is cold-blooded. too bad its funny.

Seafoodlover, you need a 2nd job, your on this forum way to much for your age and post in every thread in here.

"People...ignore Eskimo"- well, then why don't you?

DC- I by no means think that I'll get into every single school on my list. I know (now more than ever, thanks to y'all) that I'm taking a huge chance.

as for everyone else- I really appreciate the advice and, contrary to 'popular' belief.., I'm using it. :)

Eskimo, I see that you applied to WUSL at the suggestion of another parent on the Parent board, but that is a very, very hard school to get into. They rejected a student from my d's school last year who had a 1510 SAT & great ec's. Have you looked at Pratt Institute or Parsons in NY? Pratt has the design program you want & it may be a good safety. Parsons has a design & management program that sounds like what you're looking for & who doesn't love Tim Gunn! Good Luck. Things may work out for you with Fordham but it's best to have some safeties to fall back on.

"Things may work out for you with Fordham but it's best to have some safeties to fall back on."

take this advice from this thread. nothing else.

This has to be a flame. Either that or this original poster is insane. Have you bothered to do any research on these school's stats? If so, what makes you believe that you do not have to apply for any safety schools? I cannot say where you would get in with any amount of near certainty since your scores are below average (way below) at almost all but Northeastern and Buffalo. I would not count on those nor would I count on Fordham. The fact that you think applying to WUSTL at the last minute is a safety school is utterly ridiculous. Despite your laundry list of ECs the fact of the matter is that there are way too many better qualified candidates at these schools than you. If you are a serious poster, then you are seriously overestimating yourself. I am finished posting in this thread because, even if not a hoax, it is so ridiculous that it's pitiful.

????????

wowww.. haha what the heck

i just joined this website a few days ago.. and i just realized it's kinda ridiculous how uptight you guys are about these posts. i didn't ask you to come at my life, i asked if you have any opinions on the info i gave you

ps- i thinkkkk i got it already, aiight?? you don't have to rub it in. just because i have a low sat score doesn't mean that im a dumb ass
