*looking to major in entrepreneurial studies and design

*applying:
Barnard College (my dream school, i'd do anything to go here)
Brown University (5 year duel degree program brown/risd)
Rhode Island School of Design (5 year duel degree program brown/risd)
Georgetown University
New York University
Sarah Lawrence College
Wellesley College
Boston College
Swarthmore College
Vassar College
UCLA/Berkeley
Washington University - St. Louis
Fordham University
Northeastern University
University at Buffalo Honors College

anyone out there?

Your EC's and entrepreneurial spirit are quite impressive. I'm concerned that your GPA and standardized tests are quite a bit lower than what Wash U usually looks for. Since many art students there (~30%) also double major in other schools within the university, they don't relax their academic standards for art applicants. But, hey, you never know....good luck!

thanks so much

anyone else out there??

My guess is that you are in.

jclay- even with my low gpa, sats, and rank? do you think they will put that much weight on ecs?

Just my opinion. You have to remember that Wash U like all other schools also excepts people on the lower end of the gpa/st. test curve. Because of all the extra stuff you have done, I would say you have a decent shot, but that is just me.

It seems like you have a good shot. Your SAT scores/GPA/Class percentage are a little on the low end of the spectrum (many Wash U students are in the top 10% of their class or somewhere in that range and their SAT's are pretty high up there), but your EC's seem to compensate for that. Although Wash U is incredibly tough with admissions, as jclay2 said, most colleges do look at people with exceptional extra-curricular activities, and quite frankly, your EC's are stellar. Considering the prestige of your public school, I would say you've got a reasonable shot. It may be reach, but I think you have a decent shot.

Also, I was amused by your "Travel experience" section... not trying to be offensive, but I don't know if they will be won over by that ;-)

Eskimo,

I think the above posters are giving you a very unrealistic estimate of your chances at WashU. While you ECs are impressive, your SAT, SAT II, and GPA are well below the median scores for Wash U (median SAT m+cr is 1450). Your competition, at Wash U at least, are kids who have cr+m scores well above 1400 and have ECs as impressive, or more impressive, than yours. Realistically, you have relatively little chance of being accepted there. Not to worry though. You're competitive at RISD (as long as your portfolio is good), Fordham, Northeastern, and UB. And because Sarah Lawrence doesn't look at SAT scores, given your ECs, you probably have a shot there too.

thanks so much guys for all your input.. i really really appreciate the time you put in.

anyone else out there?

eskimo,

You are a great student who will find a place and do well. But I think Wash U will be tough. The stat that sticks out in my mind is that, according to US News, only 2% of the students have a CR score below 600. My guess is those 2% have some other, extraordinary qualification. Perhaps you do too, and I wish you luck.

HartinGA- wow.. you're right, that's a crazy/terrifying statistic

anyone else?
