With the single digit acceptance rate at CU, anxiety is peaking. Would CU be a long shot or possible?

Intern at naval architecture and marine engineering firm for a month over 2012 summer (really engaging experience)

That's most of it. Positive/Realistic/Critical responses welcome

A friend’s son is applying from Hoboken, NY. He had CR 670 M 760 W 660 and M2 800 Phys 770. The kid goes to a tiny private school.

If you look carefully at Cooper’s web page you see a student wearing a tee shirt from St. Alban’s School in DC. SAT’s at STA are generally over 2100

There is no good data on Cooper Union, but it is probably a long reach for OP. OP’s SAT II’s are low.

“Intern at naval architecture and marine engineering firm for a month over 2012 summer (really engaging experience)”

Would stellar short answers heighten my chances at all? Also Ive heard that the engineering school is easier to get into than the art and architecture schools

Engineering with a 700 on math and those SAT IIs is going to be hard. It is a reach due to a combination of the low math scores (they are not actually low, they are just low for a school with such low acceptance rates), your ECs not relating to engineering in any way and CU’s generally low acceptance rate.

My friend’s son, whom I mention above, apparently applied ED at Cooper and was deferred. His chances are likely below 50% probably like 30%. Yours are even lower.

That school is so hard to get into! Make sure you have a backup plan. Also have you heard about how they are possibly going to start making undergraduates students pay for tuition?

My friend’s daughter got accepted recently in engineering (ED 2013):

My knowledge from Cooper guys:

GPA: at least over 4.40 (W) and within top 5% ranked (Safe)
SAT I: Combined +2250 at least (+2300 Safe)
SAT II: +760 Both (Both 800 safe)
Essay: Must be professional level (Very Critical: Bad essay might bite GPA & SAT Scores)
Eccs: Not Critical (Meet Basic)

Save your application fee…Sorry “napchirp.”
I am very optimistic, but yours are not…

I got into Cooper with a 2030 SAT. It’s not the only factor in the application. Make sure you get great recs and great SAT 2 scores. Also my Eccs weren’t really related to engineering. They look at interest in Cooper very highly, so make sure to visit open houses. Make sure your essay and responses are really memorable. That’s a huge factor in your application. Hate to see people so cynical here
