You’ve got a pretty good shot. The SAT score is okay for U Chicago (remember that they do not include the writing section), and the GPA is good enough. The fact that you are only 29th in your class may hurt you, but since that is still in the top 10 percent, it may not be too much of a problem. The extracurricular activities are good. It will probably come down to how good your essays are, but that is the case for most applicants to U Chicago.

Your adjusted SAT is only 2120 if a racial factor is considered… Good luck.

“…But as we saw earlier, even more significant are racial factors, with black ancestry being worth the equivalent of 310 points, Hispanics gaining 130 points, and Asian students being penalized by 140 points, all relative to white applicants on the 1600 point Math and Reading SAT scale. …”

[The Myth of American Meritocracy | The American Conservative](http://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/the-myth-of-american-meritocracy/)

For some reason, I really truly believe in UChicago’s “holistic admission process” and doubt that they will take part in that nonsensical “adding and subtracting of points” from the applicants’ numbers based on race…
I don’t know why I have so much faith in this school…

So don’t worry! You have an amazing shot! As long as you truly spoke with your own voice in your essays…showedd passion through your ECs…you are fine.

Yeah, I wouldn’t really regard ww2015’s post with total truth. The article itself seems pretty fishy, as does the source. Here’s a response to this article from a former admissions officer at Princeton:

"…to say that these students are being discriminated against because of race is a huge assumption. The true questions is whether the students with higher test scores are presenting activity, leadership and community contributions comparable to other parts of the applicant pool which are “overrepresented”.

I can see that you have great extracurriculars, so you have nothing to worry about. I think you have a great shot! Your scores look good. Did you apply EA? If so, good luck next week, I’ll be in the same boat as you!

I am applying EA. Good luck to those who applied EA too! Any more replies?

So based on what you said,my SAT scores will definitely increase my chances of admission, even if the SAT II and AP scores are not required.

It your scores help it won’t be by a lot. A 2260 is good but not spectacular by U Chicago standards. I do agree with the previous posters who say that the process is holistic and you look like a strong applicant so all you can do at this point is wait and hope for the best.

Sometimes UChicago’s admission process is not all about the scores. And let’s view it this way: some people applying to UChicago have SAT scores lower and even way below the median, so the average SAT scores of people applying to UChicago should be way lower than the range 1440-1540. So my scores should still be slightly advantageous right, maybe?
By the way, do my SAT II scores help a bit?

The applicant range is lower but you’re competing against people who are equally as qualified as you are, not people who don’t have a shot. When compared to the scores of all the students who have a legitimate shot at getting in, a 1490 won’t hurt you but it definitely be the reason for an acceptance. All it will do is confirm that you’re academically qualified. You’ll need to have stood out among people who also have great scores, so don’t rely on a 2260, a great score, to get you in. Like you said, it’s not all about scores, and people with 2200’s get in over people with 2350s. You’ve shown that you’re in the ‘acceptable’ range (same with the SAT 2) so it’ll come down to whether or not the admissions officers think that you’re a right fit for the school.
