Just finished Junior year and really like BC. What are my chances

EC - Spanish honor soc.

Various School awards and participation in science programs.

Should I apply EA or are my stat’s too weak?

Thank

I would apply EA and submit your ACT score. Just a question, do you have any volunteer hours or leadership roles? Those would help you, but I think your application is strong enough. Also, what are your demographics?

Not much volunteer other than hours while I was in ASB. I ran for student body treasurer but lost. I will be VP of Spanish honor society next year. I do a few minor volunteer projects for some local charities, but I am definitely light in this area. I work part time for the same employer for the last year 1/2, play recreational soccer and spent most of my junior year study for test, test, test, test,test..... did I mention more tests.

I am not one of those superkids who do everything in the world. I like to hang with my friends wasting time too. I know that's a novel concept on this board, but I do think there is something to be said for balance in one's life.

Elmtree - I am a white female from a public school in CA. Does that hurt or help me?

The California thing definitely helps. There's A LOT of east coast kids who apply so it sets you apart.

Most of my friends want to stay in CA. I would be so excited to get into BC, tufts, georgetown. - something east coast.

Part of what elmtree said is correct. BC is filled with east coast students, however, California has the highest amount of students that are not in the northeast region of the US and the fifth highest enrollment state. It probably won't help you if you are a student from CA or won't help you too much. Also if you look at the second link, you'll see that only 24% of the students from CA are accepted, below the 29% overall acceptance rate.

So do you think that being from CA will hurt me. Are the stats good enough to have a shot even from CA?

It's not worth fretting over the geography issue; it's just a minor factor at best in the admissions process. What will really get you in or not is your overall application. Your grades and test scores certainly seem to be in the right ballpark for BC. How did you do on your AP exams? Scores of 4 or 5 will certainly boost your chances. Your ECs are light but that is offset by your part-time employment. If you can write a great essay and get some strong teacher recommendations, go ahead and apply EA.

Mostly 4 & 5 (one 2 in history). I am hoping my essay will be great. Plan on writing about being lost in a foriegn country and bullfighting.
