I’d say you’re in. What are you planning to major in so the board can chance you more specifically by college?

Thanks a lot!!

My majors could be: Biology, Government and politics or Language and History.

But people told me: for TX instate students must be TOP 10% GPA can get in UT-Austin, this is the law?

Many many thanks!!!

No, Texas students do not need to be in the top 10% to get in. There is some room left for Texas students who are not in the top 10%.

You need to pick a top choice so you know which school you are applying to, biology (College of Natural Sciences) or one of your other subjects (College of Liberal Arts).

Why are you retaking SAT II’s? Those scores look high enough to me.

The top 10% rule is just a guarantee - by law, all kids in the top 10% of their high school are guaranteed admission to any state school they want. Of course UT Austin is the biggest draw so space can fill up fast with just those students alone, which makes it more competitive for the other spaces for everyone who’s not top 10 or a transfer, international etc. But a lot of people outside of the 10% get in, just varies by your stats, major, etc.

When you apply you’ll be asked to list your first and second choice majors. I’ve heard Natural Sciences (bio) can be more comptetitive than some of the other schools (although nowhere near as hard as McCombs and Cockrell), but I think you have an excellent chance of getting in there, and for sure you can get into COLA.

I think you’re in. You are choosing either natural science or liberal arts, both of which are less competitive. Your stats are great. I’d be shocked if you didn’t get in.

Thanks!!!
Yes, I will retake my SAT and SATII in November and December to get better score and get better GPA after fall semester of 12th grade, hopefully will have beter chance to get in Hornor Program at UT-Austin?
People said that Business related majors are most competitive at UT-Austin?
Could you please give me more information about hornor program at UT-Austin?

Topgun, I hate to tell you, but it is doubtful that you could get in business honors, or even business. UT is completely numbers driven and while your stats are great, your rank would keep you out of business. - BUT for natural science or LA, you’re fine.

I’m not sure about the Dean’s Honors (natural sciences) stats or Liberal Arts Honors, there may be some posters on CC who are more familiar with those programs.

I understand that Plan II is less purely numbers driven, and more interested in the “total applicant” so the essays and extras are extremely important.

Dec 15 is the admission deadline (due-date, not postmark-date) [Deadlines | Freshmen | Be a Longhorn](http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/freshmen/admission/deadlines/index.html),
so if your 12th grade semester ends after, say, Dec 5-10, I’m not sure an improved ranking will help. Your stats look good, though, and I would guess you’d be accepted. Our daughter also goes to a competitive high school, and usually about the top 23% or so of kids from there end up being accepted.
