Waverly- I understand your opinion but to say that I have a “lower bar” not a “higher bar” is pretty rude. I took the SAT a couple times and it is my loss that the highest I could get in CR is 580 so I’ll take what I have and hope for the better. And for the record, I think the quarterback from my school who got into Harvard this year got a sub 600 CR.

Cornell- 18%
Johns Hopkins- 19%
University of Chicago- 16%
Rice- 19%
Emory- 29%
Washington University in St Louis- 17%
UCLA- 26%
UC Berkeley- 20%

Those are the most recent published admittance rates at your schools. At Emory, your “easiest” school, more than 70% of applicants are rejected. For all your other schools (except UCLA) 80+% are rejected. The ‘hole’ in your application is clearly your CR score, Waverly’s comments are merely a realistic acknowledgement of that fact.

At the top schools there are huge pools of highly qualified candidates. Peruse the results threads here at CC and you can’t help but get the feeling that at the competitive schools they look for reasons to reject as often as they look for reasons to accept. Your GPA is strong, your rank a solid top 10% (but just barely), your ECs are adequate (mostly academic - no arts, no sports). My best guess is that you’ll get into Emory and one of Hopkins, Rice or WashU.

I hope you get into all your schools but you asked for ‘chances’ input, no one promised it would all be cheery and supportive. Frankly I found DrGoogles comment that you’re in at UCLA & UCB because they need the money far more insulting than anything Waverly wrote.

I understand. Thanks for your honest opinion

Wow really good stats! Go for it. You should have a great chance to get into those schools!

Cornell: Reach
Johns Hopkins: Match
UChicago: Reach (good essay helps though)
Rice: match
Emory: match
Washington University in St Louis:match
UCLA: match
UC Berkeley: match

you have a good chance at all schools, emory, washington and rice are safeties for you, the rest may be targets as well

merahputih13, I dont think emory, washington, and rice would be safeties. These three schools are extremely competitive for admission. If any of the schools I listed, perhaps UCLA as the closest to a safety.

Andy, I said our bar was higher, being from a competitive school. Ask on CC and you’ll get everything from the unblemished truth to nonsense posted by teens who not have a clue. Read common data sets to understand reality on your own.

Your SAT CR is low, as everyone says. I think this is excusable if english isn’t your first language, otherwise, the chances of getting into any top schools are not good.
