Below is my EC

And several other activities.

Please Chance me as an international student. Thanks.

It seems to me that you’ll get in.

Forgot to tell, my toefl score is 103 and with a poor ACT of 28 cumulative. Will that lower my chance? Thanks!

I don’t think it will hurt you too much. A 28 is a little on the low side for a school like UNC, but not incredibly low. Besides, your ACT score pales in comparison to your perfect GPA at Iowa and litany of extracurricular activities. If you write a good essay on top of all that, I’m sure you’ll be a Tar Heel in no time.

Thanks man! Would you mind if I send u my essay to have a look? I think I made it a different one.
Also, are you now in UNC? The stats on the website shows that UNC will admit almost half of the transfer applicants. Is that true it is one of the easiest one to get in among top 30?

I am not yet a student at UNC. Like you, I plan to transfer to UNC soon. As far as admissions go, it’s true that UNC is slightly (only slightly) easier to get into than schools like UVA, UCLA, or most of the other public schools in the top 30. But it is still highly competitive. It is a little easier to transfer into UNC than it is to be admitted as a freshman.

In regards to your essay- sure, I’ll take a look at it. Do you just want to do this by email?

Yes, I’d like to send you my essay through email. What do you think of the chance to transfer to UNC for a international student?

Now that you are attending school in the US, I don’t think UNC really cares about your country of origin. I don’t see it as helping or hurting you. I’m not sure College Confidential will let me post my email adress, but here it goes: ajwassil@earthlink.net

Your personal essay was quite good. Apart from bringing attention to how active you have been at Iowa, it was good to see the comparison between challenges you have faced in basketball and the academic challenge you expect to experience at UNC as well as challenges you will face in the years after. This was a strong metaphor and showed that you are aware of (and prepared for) the hard work you will need to do at Chapel Hill.

If I may now offer some constructive criticism: near the end of the fourth paragraph you write “A guy shouted…”. I think your essay would sound more professional if you changed “A guy” to something like “Someone”. You also write “UNC-CH” on both occasions mentioning the university. If you would replace one of those "UNC-CH"s with “the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill”, it would break up the monotony and would also sound more formal.

I also noticed a typographical error in the final paragraph: You write “purely because the thirst for knowledge”. Be sure to go back and place an “of” between “because” and “the”.

Overall, it seems like a pretty strong concept with decent execution. Just make sure you get feedback from several more people, as I’m sure others would have good ideas that I didn’t think of.

Thank you so much! The sad thing is that I’ve already submitted it a month ago. I thought it would be better to submit it early cause most schools are rolling basis.
I hope I can get in. I really wanna change happen. Good luck to you on your application. Hope we can be both admitted to UNC

Don’t worry; even though there were a few things that could have been improved, it was still a strong essay overall. I have a good feeling about your chances for admission. Good luck to you, too!
