Chance Me- Trying to narrow down list

I haven't decided if I want to major in music or biomedical engineering yet to get into medical school.

I want to know which ones I have a chance for admissions and I want to narrow it down to about 5 or less to reduce application fees. And also if you have any other suggestions for schools, please let me know. Thanks!

Any advices?

UC Berkeley - low reach/high match
UCLA - high match/solid match
USC - not sure
Stanford - high reach
University of Washington - match for honors program
Columbia University - reach
Cornell University - reach
Rice University - reach

Your 4.0 is great, and your SAT is pretty solid… however, your class schedule isn’t that rigorous compared to other applicants at such selective schools, and to put it frankly your ECs aren’t spectacular. The orchestra involvement is awesome, but it’s basically the only thing you have going for you in that category in the eyes of top schools, you know? Stuff like student of the month awards confirm that you’re a good student, but you’re competing with other applicants who have won state, regional, and national awards in their intended major area. My sister was in a similar situation, a 4.0, 30 or 31 ACT, but similar strength of schedule and ECs, and she was rejected by Boston College and Middlebury.

Between Rice, Cornell, Columbia, and Stanford, I reckon you might get one acceptance, probably at one of the first two. Fair warning, though, they all commonly reject similar applicants.

Do you have any hooks? Like URM, first generation, etc. They’ll certainly help, I think.

Thanks for the advice. I noticed that too when I was typing the stats. I understand how there are many other students with 4.0gpa and over 2000 SAT scores.

I’m not sure what I want to major in yet, but I’m might major in music and then try to go to med school, or I might major in a med-related major and then go to med school. Do you think it might be a better idea to try and major in music since I have more EC’s related to music?

My schedule didn’t really work out to take all the APs since I went to a magnet school. I was required to take 2 engineering class (not honors/AP) for my program area.

I’m not URM, I’m a female Asian. But I am a first generation college student and my parents are middle class.

Do you think I should even try applying to Stanford, Colombia, Cornell, and Rice. Or should I just choose one or two of the 4 to apply to?

UC Berkeley- high match/low reach
UCLA- high match
USC- low match/match
Stanford- extremely high reach
University of Washington- don’t know
Colombia University- high reach (Columbia)
Cornell University- reach
Rice University- low reach

Your most realistic out of Stanford, COLUMBIA, Cornell, and Rice are Cornell and Rice (or you could do Columbia ED, but it’s obviously too late for that anyway).
