I’m a junior and will be applying to colleges fall 2020. Super interested in Tufts!!
I want to double major and apply to Tufts SMFA and study business/psych on the side. I believe my extracurriculars are strong but I am unsure if I qualify academically. I have taken 7 classes freshman, sophomore, and junior year and I am very passionate and hard-working.
GPA UW: 3.77
GPA W: 4.14
APs taken: AP Studio Art, AP French, AP Environmental Science, AP Psychology, AP Lang, AP Human Geo. (Taking more senior year.)
Extracurriculars/school involvement:
- Intern at local town newspaper (writer and photographer)
- President of largest service club on campus
- President and founder of positivity club on campus
- Reading tutor for elementary school children (every saturday for the past 2 years)
- Dental hygiene project for children in Africa (not a group service trip-- traveled alone and provided 600+ orphans with dental supplies and lessons)
- Freelance photographer
Awards:
- Girl Scout Gold Award (120+ service hours), Silver Award, Bronze Award
- High School Student of the Month
- Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition
I’d love anyone’s feedback, thank you!
My advice is…show a lot of interest. I visited twice, both sophomore and junior year. I did a two week summer program last year and I went to Tufts’ info sessions each year in my home town. They care about interest. Then make your essay very personal, as related to what you learned on visits etc…tie it all together. I just got accepted!! Class of 2024.
@Luckyjade2024 Congratulations on your acceptance!! I had planned to visit Tufts this spring but I had to cancel my trip due to COVID19… I hope to visit in the fall before I apply though! I’ve done a lot of research so far and this is one of my favorite schools(looking to apply early).
What Tufts looks for in their students aligns with my personality and work ethic. But do you think my academic achievements are lower than most other applicants, or would it significantly lower my chances of acceptance? Thanks!
Your achievements look good. they care about strong senior year classes. I took 3 AP’s this year (max allowable at my school) So keep your grades strong.
I know ED is in your favor, if you can do that. I applied RD, and was waitlisted. Just called off waitlist a few days ago.
Did you take SAT or ACT?
also they do an info night about the secrets to getting into Tufts…mine was in NYC…very insightful, another way to show interest. (sign in & register) then follow up with email the next day
also sign up for all their info, blogs, social media etc…and when they email you make sure you open and go to sites…they track that too.
