Alright here we go
Tulane is my dream school and I couldn’t apply ED because I couldn’t risk being locked in w/o knowing my aid options.
Intended Major: Environmental Studies, minor in Music Performance
State: Oregon
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Gay
Religion: Christian
ACT: 31 (33w, 31m, 29r, 31s)
GPA: 3.5w
Class Rank: N/A
AP’s: Psych, APES, Stats (in progress)
Honors: Precalc (only honors course offered)
Grade trend has been average throughout High School, attending top rated competitive high school in the state.
Extracurricular:
- Treasurer & VP for Drama Club (includes a lot of community service events)
- Choir: A part of 2 top auditioned ensembles (super competitive) + top auditioned quartet for all 4 years. Section leader 9-12, President 12.
- Band: French Horn Section leader 9-12, in top ensemble 10-12
- Swim: Co-Captain 12, varsity all 4 years & district finalist 9-11
- Outside of school ICHSA Competing ensemble- co-founder
Honors (?):
OMEA Allstate choir (11-12) & ACDA All-NW TB Choir (12) (idk if these count as official honors)
Recommendations:
Psych teacher (8/10) & Drama teacher (9/10)
Essays:
Common App: 9/10. Talks about the discrimination I faced from the church & the independent study that I pursued in analyzing the bible’s message on homosexuality with help of figureheads from the religious community in Portland.
Why Tulane: 9/10. Have done a lot of research into this school and went to their info meeting in my city, concluding that this school holds all the core morals I have while offering bountiful opportunities for my betterment as an individual. Had multiple people help me with this.
Overall: I think I have a shot. My essays really portrayed how my learning has gone beyond my GPA, but my GPA & course load still lacks while my ACT is average. Extracurriculars are solid, yet are mainly school based (with Drama showing interest in community service). Compared to the other applicants on here, I feel that I am a weaker candidate though.
Sorry if this was wordy/didn’t give the info needed, but any response is much appreciated!
