Hi, I’m a senior from Texas and I’m looking for a possible prediction on what I could be looking at financially in regards to merit-aid packages from Tulane. I am fully aware that any responses are to be taken with a grain of salt, but I’m curious as to what people think.
Gender: Male
Race: White
Income: 200k+

Wrote my Why Tulane on how my school’s service requirement opened my eyes to how rewarding service can be
Also, applied for the Paul Tulane and will be applying for the DHS, not optimistic about getting them for sure but just thought it couldn’t hurt.
@dayeshunlap That’s great - I have same ACT & income, 3.5 gpa & ; not as many extra curriculars and I did not get any. Feel like I might be the only one!
@sebound2022 If you haven’t done so already ask your high school Guidance counselor to call the admissions office on your behalf because perhaps a mistake was made. And you should separately call the local regional admissons officer who covers the territory where you are from and ask why–your ACT score is close to the top 25% of applicants and your gpa, while a bit low, is not so low as to rule out any merit aid.
@sebound2022@trackmbe3 If it helps, I demonstrated a good amount of interest (campus tour, interview, webinars) which, this year, turned out to be VERY VERY important
@trackmbe3@dayeshunlap Thanks for the advice. I have reached out to the local regional counselor and have demonstrated a great amount of interest - this is probably why I was accepted EA. I will ask my HS guidance counselor for help. My parents think it is strange as well and think it is because of my gpa. I have seen others on this board sharing their merit awards around 3.5 too. Hope it is a mistake because I’d like to attend TU but without the aid it’s not possible.
@sakrsny2018 No luck. Spoke to regional admin counselor & TU admin office & got 2 different answers - lower end gpa (3.5) and that focus is on need base this year (which doesn’t seem to be the case). So I’m out of luck unless I’m one of those that is reconsidered like many RD or deferred students. I’m very disappointed.
Hugs to you, sebound2022. The application process can feel so random, and can hurt just as much as it can bring joy. I can feel your disappointment in your post above. Hope an e-hug helps. I think you’ve done all the right things in following up. Now it sounds like you need to make sure you have other options (other schools) in your back pocket, and begin to move on. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you, too.
@sebound2022 have you received your financial aid package yet? You may end up getting enough to make Tulane work. My S did not receive any merit either and has the same stats. With the “low”, for Tulane, gpa it didn’t surprise us.
This is when we wish we lived in a less competitive area. We have been told by tutors & teachers that regular level classes would be honors classes at other schools. He would have gotten a higher gpa & been in the running for more merit. But, we have to work with what we have and stay positive.
Still holding out hope, but it is fading fast - deferred with 36 ACT, 4.76 GPA, 7 APs (all but one 5), senior year - 7 APs, year-round dual sport athlete, scout, volunteering. Just concerned there will be no merit aid left, and cannot afford 70K.
@octo22 - call your regional admissions officer tomorrow! Let them know it is your #1 choice! I think it is worth the try and that you may be surprised. Many seem to be doing this
