Are you an international student (to Canada)? This will affect your chances.

In general, Canadian universities are more mark/course based (more rigorous courses = better). For mechanical engineering, have you considered Waterloo or UT? Both are amazing engineering schools (hands down, first rate in Canada, and among the top in the world). UBC and McGill are more humanity/commerce based.

Oh, and Canadian schools only look at your 12th grade marks. So, based on that alone…
UA: should be fine
McGill: Reach
UBC: Not too sure how competitive their engineering pool is, but you should be fine.

You don’t meet the McGill cutoff for their competitive programs.

Acorn3 is incorrect about UBC and McGill. Both have strong engineering programs. Also, assuming you are an American applicant, they will be looking at different criteria for you and not just senior grades (including your SATs, all of your grades, and the supplemental essays, which are required by UBC engineering now, but not McGill or Alberta).

I’d not be so pessimistic about McGill’s programs just yet. It will depend upon how McGill deals with your full transcript (you are providing your overall average but they will look at only grades from 10th, 11th and 12th year and only for what they deem academic courses). Here is the general information about your chances:

[Admissions standards (US)](http://www.mcgill.ca/applying/standards/unitedstates/)

Mcgill is kind of jokes. A representative came to my school and said that it probably takes 30 minutes to apply to Mcgill. There is NO essays, NO listing of extracurriculars, NO references, nothing. Just list your marks and go.

Anyways, a 87% would be low for Mcgill’s top programs. Engineering is split into many “sub-engineerings” which each have a cutoff. If I recall correctly, in Canada, you are a serious competitor for mechanical engineering at low 90s, and since you are international, it would be harder for you.

You can easily get in University of Alberta (no one in Toronto even considers that university) and you can probably get in UBC (you would definitely get in if you are Canadian, but I don’t know about international).

You’re safely in at all three. These posters are confusing the Canadian school system (a joke where even slackers can get 90’s) with the Indian system.

If you’re interested in engineering, I would recommend UWaterloo as well. Especially its dual engineering+business programs. Also, U of Toronto.

For business alone, apply to Queen’s Commerce and Ivey HBA-AEO.

For liberal arts, either McGill or Queen’s ArtSci.

The programs I’ve listed above (especially Ivey HBA and Waterloo engineering) are top-notch and on the same level as top US schools. The rest of the programs in Canada, frankly, are garbage.

Princeton Dreams which univ of Canada has the best mech engineering program
My parents can fund me upto 34k per year

Princetondreams is a student. What, 19 years old? Went to a highschool once? And the basis of his opinion is what exactly? The ‘authority’ with which you speak PD is so tiresome, especially when its based on almost no substance and grand generalities. I guess you really believe that if you say it like its true, like you’re an expert, people will believe you.

Some of us are actually professors of engineering and business schools, we’ve actually worked in the US and Canada, and taught in both Ivy league bshools and Canadian publics. My husband is a professor of engineering and business. I’m a bschol prof. Just yesterday I ran into a former MBA student of mine, from 20 years ago, who currently runs an equity firm in London. I’ve sat on AASCB accreditation bodies. Ive chaired the faculty association of businees school professors (based in the US) for the past five years. I’ve taught at an Ivy and did my PhD at the top bschool at the time of my PhD (back in the late 80s). I currently coauthor with colleagues at Princetondream’s undergrad, and visit many schools on a regular basis.

But what would I know? Ignore me if you want, but I’m tell you to tune out Princetondreams. Most of the time he has no idea what he’s talking about, but likes to think he’s big man on campus. Right.

Hey calm down lady, I just asked him because I think he is an international student so can give me nice insight into the financial or merit aid ,canadian universities award to international students.I was not ignoring anyone else just responding to his post and u are angry about nothing.

It would be great if u or anyone else can suggest me a nice canadian university (mech engineering department)that suits my budget about 34k.
