What are my chances of being admitted to the honors college?
I’d say your SAT score might be just a little too low for Univ of SC’s honors college. That 50% avg for SAT is in the 1440-1520. But, don’t get discouraged if you really want to get into the Honors college. One of my daughter’s friend applied to the honors college in 2018 with a 1400 SAT and didn’t get accepted. My daughter didn’t even apply to SC’s honors college as a freshman, but she was recommended to apply during her freshman year.
She was accepted into the Honors college starting her sophmore year and has loved it so far. A 3.60 GPA was required during her freshman year in order to have a shot to get into SC’s honors college starting her sophmore year, and she easily maintained that. So, don’t lose hope if you didn’t get into the honors college right now. You can apply again during your freshman year. They have some really interesting classes reserved only for honors college students, there’s an easier pathway to studying abroad, and there’s also scholarship opportunities only for honors college students.
Your stats are about the same if not lower than my daughter’s, and she did not get Honors College. She is also an excellent writer and had very strong essays that focused on unique/interesting subjects. I think her stars were simply too low. But, she was a Capstone Scholar and would not change a thing. Living in the Capstone dorm was an amazing experience and she has applied to be a Capstone peer educator for her junior year. Honors College has its advantages, but Capstone was the perfect fit for her. You should get some very good merit aid with your stats as well. Good luck with Honors as you just never know, but if you don’t get that and get Capstone, I highly recommend that program!
