Low chance at UCLA and near 0% chance at Haas. The business programs are not OOS friendly, especially Haas. Average gpa admit for UCLA Biz econ was 3.92-.93 and from CCC who have first priority.

Try to aim for Stern, if I had the choice of all the schools you listed, Stern would be my #1 choice, especially if you are considering ibanking. For Stern you have a good shot.

Will I have better shot if I change Major into Economics? I mean for UCB and UCLA.

Your hs GPA and test scores will not factor into your UC applications.

@Shannon13: Since I am from OOS, I still have not shot at all?

If your goal is to go into “business” you should realize that your major doesn’t really matter. Majoring in economics or bus admin doesn’t bestow upon individuals any valuable skills and employers realize this. It’s better to major in something easy like psychology or anthropology and to have a sky high GPA and really good work experience and maybe the level 1 CFA passed. If you’re worried about relevance, take on a minor in accounting or something like that.

If you do something a bit more quantitative like Math/Econ then that’s another story in my opinion as there are transferable skills(Statistics, Econometrics, Modeling) though there is a GPA penalty for going that route.

Also, your HS GPA and test scores are utterly irrelevant to the people in admissions.

@xelink Thanks for replying. If I get you right, do you think I have a better chance to be admitted if I chance my major from business to economics? Actually I know major does nor matter that much. For me, be able to get in really matters… But it seems that both economics and business are highly selective…

I honestly do not know. I do know that Hass has a number of good opportunities thrown their way, though to some extent it’s about making opportunities for yourself.

Here’s a volunteer listing of careers by primary major at UCB.
https://career.berkeley.edu/Major/Major.stm

@xelink

Major matters if you go to Berkeley. Callisto (the Berkeley career site) doesn’t allow you to apply to a lot of jobs unless you’re a particular major. So if you’re an anthro major at Berkeley, you physically can’t apply to many desirable business jobs through Berkeley, you’d have to apply through connections or some alternative method. The difference between Haas and econ isn’t as big, though Haas people certainly have more services available to them.

Also, GPA is used for screening and getting a first round interview, but after that, it doesn’t help much for getting a job.

Berkeley doesn’t offer a minor in accounting. UCLA biz econ has one though.

Every banker/financier i’ve talked to has told me that the CFA doesn’t mean anything and won’t give you much of an edge.
