Chance Me! (UChicago, UVA, W&M, Virginia Tech)

Ethnicity: Indian =[
Family Income: 75,000 or something like that
Financial Aid: Applying for it
Location: Live in Virginia (Mainly important for UVA, William and Mary, and VT Apps)
High School: 9-10th grade I attended a high school that was nationally renowned for difficulty of academics. Moved to another city, the new school is predominantly white, many rich kids, but mostly middle income bracket school

SAT: 650 Reading, 720 Math, 610 Writing (I didn't send Official SAT Score Report to UChicago)
SAT II: 720 Physics, 670 Math II (Retaking Math II in January and taking Biology E as well, Hoping 700+ on both)
ACT: 32 Composite, 29 Reading, 35 English, 33 Math, 32 Science, 31 English/Writing (Sent this official ACT score to all schools)

My high school transcript actually shows ACT/SAT Testing scores, but they aren't official... Do you think UChicago will consider the shown SAT Reasoning scores on the transcript? I hope not because my SAT Reasoning is very low for their standards...

GPA (Without Senior Year): Unweighted 3.77, Weighted 3.98 (Only AP Classes weighted)
Class Rank (Without Senior Year): 50/293
Class Rank (Extrapolated Semester Grades of Senior Year): 1/293 (All 4.0's or above are rank 1 in this school)

AP Classes:
Junior Year: 3 English Language, 4 US History, 4 Physics B, 5 Calculus AB
Senior Year: Biology, Statistics, English Literature, US Government, Computer Science A

Grades:
All A's in my junior year, most likely in senior year as well.
I improved my grades since 7th grade (took algebra and language classes in middle school)

Only A's and B's for all high school courses ever taken since 7th grade. Do they consider high school courses I took in middle school? I took Algebra I, Geometry, and Spanish I all in middle school, and I got B's in both maths except for one semester of Algebra I.

Extracurriculars/Other Stuff:
-Latin Club (Officer position)
-Math Honor Society (Student Founder and President; First Initiation mid January)
-Volunteering for 100ish hours at local hospital
-UPenn Experimental Physics Academy: July 2010, 35 hours a week for 4 weeks
-Varsity Academic Team: Only this year though, for fun. Didn't really mention it in my app
-Varsity Track and Field: Junior year, will do this year as well

Other Honors and Stuff:
-Spanish Honor Society
-Beta Club (Idk what this is to be honest... Some honor society or something)
-National Honor Society
-AP Scholar with Honor
-Math Honor Society

Recommendations:

Main Teacher Recommendations:
-AP Calculus teacher; strictly academic, pretty good at what it wishes to present
-AP Language teacher; more about personality (I have no idea what she wrote to be honest... It was a risk)

Supplementary Recommendations:
-Sponsor of Math Honor Society (Going to send along with Midyear Report); Explain my role in the process of creating the chapter at my school, very good
-UPenn Physics Professor; Talk about what I did at the Physics program, and stuff like that, probably good

Applying to College of Arts and Sciences to all (except Virginia Tech Engineering)

Ermm... I think that's it..? Chance me PLEASE!
UChicago, UVA, William and Mary, Virginia Tech Engineering

UChicago is a reach. UVA is also a reach but, it helps that your in-state so acceptance is feasible. Those are the only two I know of. Good luck!! Chance me?? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1057649-wheel-chance-what-goes-around-comes-around.html</a></p>

Thanks, bump!

UChicago - Reach
UVA - High Match
W&M - Match
VT - Safety

You should have only submitted your ACT by the way.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1063409-chances-uva-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Chance back!

Lemme guess. You went to TJ 9-10th. Go Colonials!

Bottom line I basically agree with what the posters above said. Your GPA/rank is good/great, but your test scores are a bit lacking.

UChicago - mid Reach
UVA - High Match/low reach
W&M - high Match
VT - Low match/safety

Goodluck can u please chance me back

Lencias: Nope! I went to Albemarle High School in Charlottesville, VA. Lived 5 minutes from UVA =P

The Virginia schools are very competitive. UVa and William and Mary are probably reaches because of your class rank. Virginia Tech engineering is tough as well so do whatever you can to bring up your grades. It is definitely not a safety for you. Son in 2009 was waitlisted at VT with better class rank and very similar SAT’s (710M,650CR),AP Scholar with distinction, great EC’s.When he got off the waitlist,he was accepted into university studies, not engineering. You may want to look at George Mason for engineering if you want to add another Virginia school that would be more of a match/safety for you. You currently do not have a true safety on your list.Good luck!

Chicago- reach
W&M- low reach
UVirginia- in
Tech- easy in

Heads up early acceptance call start at 6:00 pm chicago time. No joke

Sevmom: I’m fine with University Studies at Tech, I can just go with a science. Not too big of a deal.

Everyone else: Thanks a bunch! Anyone else wanna share their opinions? =]

Sevmom: Oh, another thing, just realized this… I’m actually in the second decile, which isn’t that bad. And my class rank will go to 1 after the first semester of senior year, which ends next Friday for me. I don’t know if the Midyear Report is read before admissions counselors read my application, or if later reviewers get to read it or what, but I feel that my Midyear Report will help tons.

you’ll surely get into tech. And probably William & Mary, maybe UVA. Chicago is a reach though. It’s really cool that you have math honor society and spanish honor society. If my school had them I’d definitely join! haha. All those honor societies should surely help. Good luck!!! My cousin’s a VT hokie and she’s never been happier  She loves it there. I hope to get in too!

I got into Tech Engineering, and am invited to apply to Honors! =]
