Chance Me UCI,UCLA,UCSB

I am currently in my second year at PCC. What are my chances at these colleges?

Majors: History and Media Studies
GPA: 3.65
IGETC: Will be completed, I just need Math. (which I'm taking this semester)
TAG: No
ECs: Anthro Club VP, Volunteered at Natural History Museum
Work: I have been working 30+hours a week and my GPA in the 1st semester of my second year dropped to a 3.25. My first year I finished with a 3.8.
I will also have two AA's by the time I graduate this June.

Did you apply already or are you going to this fall?

I already applied and am anxiously awaiting a response.

Having your Math as “IP” does not look good.

They prefer you to have your English and Math completed by the time you apply.

I wish I had know that a long time ago -___-
Is there a good chance that I could win an appeal if I am denied admission? b/c I dont see a point in sticking around at a CC for a third year and racking up 2 or 3 more AA’s, unless that will make me a more competative applicant next year when the UC’s have like 20k+ applicants applying as transfers to the majority of their campuses…any suggestions?

It doesn’t hurt to try!

Hmmmm, I wouldn’t take what lawlking is saying about the “IP” toooo seriously specially if you have a reputable transcript that proves you’ve completed previous coursework successfully.

ALSO, I have a friend who got into the school of art* at ucla but has yet to complete his math requirements or even any of his art prereqs (painting, drawing, etc…). I think he has like a 3.30 gpa as well.

*it’s not an official admission, he passed the faculty portfolio/academic screening, and still needs to hear from the school itself about whether he’s in or not.

you still have not heard from UCSB? guess a number of students are still “pending” there. none of those particular UC schools are what i would call easy to get into. i added UCSC to my line up just to guarantee that i would get into at least one UC with my GPA. i know UCLA and UCSB are very competitive, and i believe that UCI is more competitive than davis now? not really sure and it depends on the major and whether or not it is impacted.

but you should have a chance for admittance to attend at least one UC. at least you do not have math and english IP. but lawlking is making a good point. they do prefer to see those courses completed. anyway, if UCSB is still pending then perhaps they will admit you. UCI may be slightly less competitive, UCLA of course is extremely competitive. but i guess you have all prereqs completed if you are getting an AA. that will really help you a great deal, i think. hope they all admit you! good luck.

I still haven’t heard from any of the UC’s yet, but right now my #1,2,3 is UCI, UCLA, UCSB. UCI is my #1 over LA b/c I think im being realistic, plus I love the campus nd feel of UCI. at UCLA I still feel the hustle nd bustle of the city around me.
The thing about my AA is that I did not mention it in my UC app as I did not know I would even qualify for it b/c I was at the end of a long waitlist for stats, which was the only class keeping me from completing IGETC. Like I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, earning my AA’s would be my grounds for an appeal, since it’s new info not previously made know on my app, but idk if it’s a strong appeals argument.

^ well, i am not positive but i have read that an AA is not a basis for admission on any level at the UC’s. they look for the basic requirements which include IGETC, prereqs, and 60 units. they certainly won’t hurt admission, but they will look at the prereqs, right? check your prereqs in Assist.org for the schools. hopefully you have them all for the departments you applied to. completing the prereqs will help you a great deal from what i am reading. good luck!

percentage wise, UCLA is now harder to get into that CAL. and the history department is “impacted” so if you get in, it will be a fantastic achievement. hope you do. still, any one of those schools is world class.

AAs are bad, they make it so that other employers can request transcripts from your JC…
you want them to think you were at a uni all 4 years.
