CHANCE ME! (UCLA, CalPoly SLO, UCI, UCSD)

Hello! I’m an upcoming senior planning to major in Bioengineering. I currently live in Southern California.

Weighted GPA (with freshman year): 3.9285
Weighted GPA (without freshman year): 3.8928

Unweighted GPA (with freshman year): 3.6833
Unweighted GPA (without freshman year): 3.5250

Started a website with my friend

Honors/AP classes:
Freshman Year: English Honors (A/A), Accelerated Math (A/A)***
Sophomore Year: English Honors (B/A), Accelerated Math (A/A), Chemistry Honors (A/B)
Junior Year: Accelerated Math (B/B), AP Chemistry (C/C), AP Physics (B/C)
***I did take Biology. I got A’s both semesters

Unique Classes:
Drawing/Painting (A/A), Web Design (A/A), Engineering and Technology 101 (A; this is a college class), Culinary (A/A), 3 years of Spanish (all A’s)

I am really concerned about my C’s. I understand that they do affect my chances, but I did try my best and this is where I am now. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

All are Reach schools except UCI which is probably a High Match (50/50 chance) since your weighted GPA is below 4.0. Bioengineering and Engineering in general is very competitive at all these schools.

Here is UC admit rate data for GPA in your range along with test scores and this data is not major specific so expect Bioengineering to be much lower than posted:

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:

UCB: 12.6%
UCLA: 11.7%
UCSD: 38.7%
UCSB: 53.6%
UCD: 56.5%
UCI: 52.1%
UCSC: 75.7%
UCR: 90.1%
UCM: 96.1%

25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:

UCB: 1280-1490

UCLA: 1280-1500
UCSD: 1250-1470
UCSB: 1210- 1450
UCD: 1190-1430
UCI: 1190-1420
UCSC: 1170-1380
UCR: 1090-1310
UCM: 1020-1230

SLO’s average GPA for Engineering last year was 4.16. Average ACT was 32 and SAT was 1467. Acceptance rate for Bioengineering last year was around 11%.

You need to target more reasonable schools based on your stats. I would add UCD/UCSB (still 50/50 chance), UCSC, UCR, Cal State Long Beach and San Jose.

I will add GPA data for Engineering admits at UCLA: 4.0 UW and a 4.4 Capped Weighted average UC GPA for the College of Engineering.
