My alternate major is anthropology with one pre-req done

What was TAP for you? Was it 4 honors classes?

Was your gpa 3.5 flat?

The accepted average for last semester was 3.65

Having tap gives you an advantage, but I think it may hurt you that you don’t have one of the pre reqs done. You should definitely indicate you are taking it in the spring. It may end up coming down to your EC’s and the quality of your essay.

i do not mean to hijack your thread rgrego but i have same question as you do. My major also is pol sci.
GPA 3.74
TAP done by Spring 10
IGETC done by Spring 10
3/4 pre-reqs done by Spring 10.
I want to take the last 4 but the class is having no teacher. It may get canceled. I am enrolling at OCC.

Honors at my school is 18 units of honors classes, 12 of the units must be completed before spring before transfer, so you can’t take more than 6 units in the spring before transfer.

My GPA is 3.5 flat
I am hoping that TAP will help me alot
the UCLA counselor says having 3/4 will be fine
antonthesky:
I am at OCC and so what you must do is indicate on your application update the situation that you are in, the UCLA counselor told that me I would be fine with only three out of four done because three is required and four is recommended. from what I see you are in a really good position for UCLA since your GPA is high. I wouldn’t worry to much about as long as you explain to UCLA what happened .

this thread gave me goosebumps because my stats are almost exactly like yours

poli sci major (not really sure i wanna do this anymore tho
3.5 gpa flat
tap certified (24 honors units by end of spring, 1 more class)
5/5 prereqs (pol sci 1, 2, 5, 7 & stats1)
igetc by end of spring

i think not having your pre reqs completed may hurt you a bit because political science is really impacted, but other than that i say we have a pretty good shot. im clinging on to my tap certification at this point…

what did u guys get in Marcina’s 185 class? i heard she only gives out like 1 or 2 As per semester

yep yep, B in 185 Marcina. I took 185 in spring 09. Planning to take 110 and 188 spring 10 cause im taking honor classses atm. I think this is the first time she will not teach 188. Also, one of her 185 is dropped. No idea why

I got in with a 3.4 from OCC.

Marcina is in all honesty your best “warm up” for university level work.

wow congrats.

Was that for Fall 09? I’m guessing Tap, ECs, and killer essays?

We have a professor like that at SBCC. Eskandari. Frustrating class but definitely good preparation.

Yes for Fall '09. No Tap and decent essays. It’s honestly not as hard to get into Cal and UCLA as people here on CC make it out to be. But I’d have to say it was my EC’s that helped me get accepted.

^^what EC did you have?

I thought you needed 4 prereq’s… Can anyone clarify?

I only had 3 pre-reqs done, int’l relations, American politics and comparative/world politics.

For my ec’s I was an intern at my local CA Assemblyman’s district office where I got to meet John McCain, Meg Whitman, Vicente Fox as well as many California politicians. I was also an intern for my county’s Public Defender. And lastly I was a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Bump. I have similar stats to those who have posted.

bump. I have question about the may-got-cancelled political theory class. The class is opened but there is no professor atm. I explained my situation in the update.

BUT, what if the class will NOT get cancelled. Do i have to take the class because i listed it in the courses list i’ll be taken in Spring 10.
Will they consider that i am lying if i dont take the class?

FYI, I will have satisfied the major pre req with 3 major classes without this pol theory.

^if the class get canceled then UCLA won’t hold it against u. i think marcina will teach it tho

what i mean is if the class wont get cancelled but i dont take the class. Will they consider im lying and jeopardize my admission chance? I will have 3/4 classes done. Im just not sure i can handle marcina class with others…

you need to tell UCLA that you will not be taking it and to take it off your spring class schedule.

you need to tell the UCLA admissions office about the change that you are doing in your spring classes. as long as you do that everything should be fine. I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to be missing one of the pre-reqs

i will have 3/4 pre req done by Spring without the pol theory. Theoretically, i think im done with 3 because they say 3 is the minimum and 4 is recommended. It is not required that you have to take all four but it will improve your chance of admission.

So if me gpa = 3.74 TAP everything done by Spring with 3 major pre req then anyone knows what my chance is?

Out of curiosity, do they check if it’s true that the class get cancelled? How do they know if we are lying or not.
