Chance Me (UCLA & UCB)

Currently a political science/economics major at Foothill College looking to transfer to UCLA's political science program or Cal's Political economy program.

UC Transferable GPA: 3.81
Major GPA: 4.0

I also got a C in calculus which definitely plummeted my GPA.

Dean's List multiple times.

Volunteer: 8 hours/week at a homeless shelter helping out and tutoring.

Research/internships: Intern at CA assemblymember's office.

Member of the Speech & Debate Team.

In the honors program at Foothill College. I will be TAP certified for UCLA so I'm hoping that will help out a little.

Is there anyone who has been accepted into these programs at either of these schools?

Further, what are some things I can do between now and November (when I submit my application) to boost my chances of getting into either of these schools?

Thanks, all!

Foothill College!! I go there too

Obviously I don’t know for sure, but I think you’re in at UCLA and Cal. You have really good ECs, I wish mine were that good. But hey if you’re looking for another EC and got an A in English, you should join “Pass the Torch” next week. I’m going in to check it out on Monday. It’s about tutoring at-risk students. They are connected with a similar program at Cal, so it might look good on your app too. I think you will get in for sure though, barring an anomaly.

The best thing you can do is get a 4.0 this semester and write the best personal statements you can. I’d say you’ve got a really good shot at getting into UCLA with TAP. Berkeley is much more subjective and unpredictable. No one is going to be able to tell you what you already know. You have a good GPA and none of us know what the admission committees are looking for this cycle. Good luck and bang out one last 4.0 this semester. HTH!

Your extracurricular activities and strong GPA will certainly help. I’m not sure how competitive UCLA’s political science program is, but your resume is impressive.

UCLA considers your major GPA. Cal does NOT.
