Chance Me (UCLA & UCB)

Currently a political science/economics major at Foothill College looking to transfer to UCLA's political science program or Cal's Political economy program.

UC Transferable GPA: 3.75
Major GPA: 3.77

I also got a C in calculus which definitely plummeted my GPA.

Dean's List multiple times.

Volunteer: 8 hours/week at a homeless shelter helping out and tutoring.

Research/internships: Intern at CA assemblymember's office. Intern for the Foothill-DeAnza Teacher's Union.

Member of the Speech & Debate Team.

In the honors program at Foothill College. I will be TAP certified for UCLA so I'm hoping that will help out a little.

Is there anyone who has been accepted into these programs at either of these schools?

Further, what are some things I can do between now and November (when I submit my application) to boost my chances of getting into either of these schools?

Thanks, all!

smart of you of not applying to the economic department, your odds would have been around 0-30%. Since you are applying to Poly-sci I see your odds subtantially increase, ill say 50-75%. at least is better than 50-50.

If you really want to get into UCLA econ dont stress, there are ways to getting there once you are admitted. once you get here

you would have to kick ass to get in Econ 10, 101, and 101. It aint easy since the classes themselves are hard and very curved. but if you excel you can even get in biz-econ.

You’ve got a good shot at both. I’d say in at UCLA and 50-50 shot at UCB.

The only thing that worries me is that C… However, I know Poli Econ majors who have lower GPAs then you… out of curiosity why do you want to do berkeley political over regular econ?

With TAP certification and a good GPA, I’d say you have an excellent shot at UCLA. Berkeley seems to be more of a toss up, though.

Average admitted GPA for poli sci majors at UCLA was 3.77. Yours is 3.75 and you’ll be TAP certified. You’re definitely in at that school. Good luck!

Have you completed the pre-reqs (or atleast three like it says on assist) for polisci? I am also a polisci major and applied for UCLA, but Ive got a 3.93. Since your TAP certified I would say your in for UCLA, and are 50-50 for Berkeley.
