Thanks :) Will chance back!

the fact that you are a first generation college student and have a single parent can help a lot!

i’d say cal poly and ucsc are safeties
uci is a high safety
ucd and ucsb low target/target
ucsd high target
ucla and ucb low reach/reach

i think you have a pretty decent shot in all of them though! good luck! and chance back please!

what is your SAT score (CR+M) only?

Also, there is no bio-engineering in Cal Poly, only bio-medical engineering.

Cal will be a reach
UCSC safety
UCLA low reach

are you saying that it’s easier to get into ucd and ucsb than ucsd?

@ jamesdantely
Yes, UCSD and UCLA are about definitely the most selective after Berkeley. Davis and Santa Barbara are still terrific schools, but they are not quite as selective.

Hi,

I graduated from UCSD in BioE. For kicks, I’m just looking back at what it’s like to apply, and giving a helping opinion.

I think your grades and extracurricular commitment are all awesome. great job!

I think for BioE though, you may want to orient most of those extracurriculars toward science and engineering. i did COSMOS at UC Davis, in Biomedical Sciences, and volunteered at a hospital for two summers, for instance. many of my classmates did something similiar, but then again i also know people who didn’t.
